Looking for some assistance and advice. I know the whole thing about PVC, being honest i'd love to put in some nice Alu Clad Timber but the price is making PVC a more realistic option. Black in colour low-e argon filled with the plastic glazing bar. I'm an ex Arch Tech now in the Building game. I'm looking for Window manufacturers that people have used and have no qualms in recommending them. New to this (how the hell do i PM)

First of all if anyone wants to reccommend window suppliers to the OP then do it by PM.

chopchopdigdig if you want to PM someone here just click on their user name and then click on "view public profile". Under "contact info" you will see an option to send a private message (PM)

I would be cautious about black pvc due to potential problems with expansion/contraction. Plastic windows are more prone to movement due to temperature fluctuations then either timber or aluminium. A black finish is only going to increase the risk. Black plastic doors are notorious for sticking.

I am in the windows game and can recommend 3 systems--<SNIP>
these competing systems are at the top and I can see nothing between them.
Black windows do take more heat, but I have installed large conservoties in black with no promblems.
They MUST be fully reinforced by the manufacter.
The price of reinforcing has gone up by 25% so some might cut corners.
I see you want plastic spacer bar , but I would recommend D/G units made with Super Spacer as this a better " warm edge" techonolgy. Plus they are giving a 15 year on the units.
Forget about triple-glazing if somebody tries to sell it to you it's a complete waste of money.

And how exactly do you quantify this statement?

up to 100% extra cost over double glazing for marginally better results. In fact double glazing with all the bells and whistles can even perform better than bog standard triple glazing.
Also triple glazing reduces your solar gain

    Slig,

I have been told that by a few different sources as well, they claim the "soft coat" glass will perform almost as well as tripple glazing. The additional cost can just not be justified by the marginal increase in performance.

I will get some figures from the guy in a few weeks and post them when I have the chance !

    Sorry forgot about <SNIP>.
yes they are a better finish in the Vertical sliders.
Just in the little details and hardware.
Have you tried <SNIP> down in waterford. Have bought a few jobs of V/S windows off them and can only say that they are on top of their game. <SNIP> is their system.

We will play this game a little differently on this thread. As you all should know naming firms/businesses is not allowed. I normally just give a warning but in this instance I will ban the next person who posts the name of another window supplier or fitter or anything on those lines.

Christ almighty the more leeway I give you all the more you take advantage of it. Well it stops here.
