    Hey,

Just booked 2 weeks in the Dominican Republic with Budget Travel and was wondering if any one has been to Playa Dorada and what they thought of it? Does anyone have any details on the flight, I see it goes by St. John's in Canada so are we going with another operator that budget linked up with from canada and thats why it goes to St. Johns. If so does anyone know the operator?

    Thanks very much

    MM

I was there about 4 years back but booked flights/hotel independently
    and via UK.

With Budget I'd say it's their own charter.

There's plenty of info on tripadvisor for most of the major hotels in
Playa Dorada and Dom Rep in general.

The stop in St. Johns is for refuelling, will be a long flight westbound.
    Would not fancy it myself.

    cheers,
I thought initially that it might have something to do with refuelling, but sure aerlingus fly straight to florida without refuelling and I checked the website for the airport in puerto plata and it gave details of flights to mainland europe and england so I didn't think it would have anything to do with that? I'd think that St. Johns would be under quite a bit of snow and the folk there would be interested in a bit of winter sun, hence my assumption in budget linking up with a canadian tour operator. thanks for your help

I was in Cabaraete which is just down the coast from Playa Dorada. Dorada is pretty much an all-inclusive compound type place. Cabarete is a windsurfing/ kitesurfing town. If you just like chillin' with the missus then Dorada will suit you fine. If you get bored - take up Kitesurfing - you won't regret it!

I'm pretty sure I got a direct flight from UK to Dom Rep.

As mentioned already Playa Dorada is really just a cluster of AI hotels
and complexes. If you're looking for a somewhat different day out
book the monster truck excursion. You'll get to see some of the smaller
villages and some of the countryside.

good stuff glasso, one of the lads is a mad kitesurfer, just back from a holiday in spain where he was kitesurfing for a week so i'm sure he'll be delighted to hear that!

Cabarate is one of the best places in the world for kitesurfing due to great wind stats and amazing natural geographics on the bay there - would be a sin not to do it when you're over there. Puerto Plata - just near Dorada is a bit of a mad town - full of convicts from all over the world - seriously!!!

I flew with mates from Gatwick - Firstchoice I think - got the flight cheap - 250 sterling return.

good stuff might head down to tramore on saturday and try and pick it up so! i was meaning to ask what puerto plata was like? is it a good place to go out at night or have decent restaurants and bars or would you be better off staying in the resort. we're there for two weeks so would like to get out of the resort for a bit...

puerto plata isn't great - better off getting a taxi down to Cabarete for a few of your nights there - cool bars + restos all along the beach.
