Just listening to this guy on RTE Radio

He claims that global warming is a GOOD THING!He says warmth is the friend of the poor, with less ice there is more land for farmers to grow crops and "Feed the world" despite rising sea levels etc.

This guy is now making a film, telling us to increase global warming. American of course. There is a trailer on YouTube but I cant find it.

Does anyone else think he is talking "bollocks"

    Aye, bollocks.

I reckon it's the governments of these countries messing it up. They get sent money in aid and everything and the gov generally spend it on weaponry rather than anything else. It's ****ing ridiculous. Either that or Americans charge tax on the goods exported from places like Africa so basically we're sending money and it's just coming back.

More floods also mean plants will drown anyway (including people, like bob) so that bloke didn't really think this through.

Unless we sprout gills we'll be planting nothing.

    *reminded of Futurama* hahahaha

I think Putin said that once, he was saying that global warming will mean his people won't have to fork out for fur coats.

    Some people, eh?

Warm is good, my leccy bills will be less (and I'm high enough up not to get flooded by artic icemelt)

    Mike.

More warmth = more crop growth
More CO2 = more crop growth (else why do hoticulturalist inject CO2 into greenhouses?)
More water = more crop growth

    Problem:

The water is always in the wrong place (falling over me at the moment).

Damnit people its all a pile of rubbish and twaddle..

Global warming is half a myth,,,

Yes the earth's temperature has been rising steadly for the last god knows how many years, but thats just part of the earths natural cycle.

Were still technically in an ice age ffs.. The planet is shifting out of it, Of course its going to get bloody warmer.

In fairness we aren't exactly helping ourselves as regards polluting the ocean and killing off animals and so forth, and the warming process is probably happining faster with what were doing..

But Feck it.. It was happening anyway.

So until the day we all die horribly in the global warming disaster I'm going to keep driving my 2ltr car, still eat meat, use plastics, make a bit of an effort but generally not give a toss about my carbon footprint ..

and buy myself some new bermuda shorts...

I personally pay little attention to climate change rhetoric. However, if the movement means that we can have cleaner air and water in my lifetime, then I am all for it. Warming up or not.

hasn't there been floods, droughts etc before

it is true that were fecked when all the oil runs out, there will only be solar powered internet etc. We'll be wishing there was more sun to generate all the power needed

The world gets cooler every winter and warmer every summer so what does global warming matter anyway?

Not true. From your perspective, yes, but not the worlds.

Alas the new VRT system is promoting exactly the opposite in terms of air quality.

    Expand.

CO2 isn't harmful to humans except in extremely high concentrations, which aren't found in air, well, except in exceptional natural circumstances. I'd rather sit behind a Petrol than a Diesel-powered car in a traffic jam.

so how is that the opposite?

Because CO2 emissions from cars will never affect the air enough for you to notice in your breathing unless you connect a hose to it. The new VRT system promotes diesel engines which pump out more particluates which you may notice in your breathing.

I'm going to wreck this planet as much as i want, because one person cannot make a difference, Its the grand children's problem to fix.

Ah no, In fairness...we need to get our sh*t together and get Bono to campaign this with a few free gigs.

Crisis, crisis, crisis. Fear, fear, fear.

If some fella fell over in Russia it would make front page news. What a joke.

Global warming, global cooling, droughts, famines, storms. Its all a load of tatter. Have you ever noticed how all solutions to these imaginary crisis result in a reduction of freedoms and pick you pocket?

Yeah, for me to swallow any solution it should involve hookers, and cigars, and blackjack.

over her they are trying there best to hype up tropical storm fay into some major catastrophie, even declaring a state of emergency before it got here, all seems a bit over the top for a storm with top winds of 65 mph

Er...no, scientists never thought it was as simple as 'everything gets warmer'. The name 'climate change' caught on as it's a more accurate description of what's happening (despite having been invented by climate change deniers).

    Hm...this thread worries me...
