    Hi folks,

I'm male and am seeing someone and we want to try not using condoms and using the pill, etc, instead. I want to be 100% sure I am sexually healthy and so want to get tested. I know there is info on STI clinics but I didn't see any recent info on the Mater and James's clinic. I want to go to the Mater cos you don't need an appointment but can someone tell me how long I'll be waiting if I go in on a Thurs round 6.30 (I see they run 5-7 for blokes)??

I really don't want to have to spend hours in there? Would I be better off booking a private appointment?

    ring them and ask.
alternatively, go private for about 150 you can get a full STI screen, yo dont have to wait ages, and the results come back faster

Good move BTW. Its good to be absolutely sure

Cheers Marksie. Can you or anyone else recommend a good private doctor for it? Plus when you say a 'full' STI screen, do you mean that the Mater won't test for everything??

Plus how long would I be waiting on the Mater to get back with the results?

If you can afford it I would recommend going private. Had a test done recently, the doctor that I saw was extremely professional and friendly. He put me completely at ease and I was in and out in about 20 minutes. Results back in 2 weeks and I'll be back in to him to get them - it's a free review.

It's a lot of money to pay but I feel that it's definitely worth it.

Jervis Medical Centre do private STI screening, full test for every STI imaginable, in and out in 10 mins, results in 2 wks, 150 quid. They're my GPs so I assumed all GPs do it privately (maybe it's just because JMC is a family planning centre too though.)

    Good move, G'luck!

Urine sample and a swab or your urethra too. Doesn't hurt much, slightly sore for about 3 seconds
