TV Senders to HTPC

    Hi

apologies in advance if this is a question that has been answered many times before.

I've just got a HTPC which works perfectly, but I'm having a wee problem.

I have SKY downstairs, and connected to the back I have an av sender, which on my tv and previous dvd recorder worked fine.

But now I have the HTPC, the wi-fi signal interferes with the signal coming from the av sender boxes.

So I can't have the HTPC and TV on at the same time, therefore making it useless as a PVR, or indeed I can't be downloading anything while I want to watch tv.

I've changed the channel on my wifi router to see if that would help and it didn't.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

    2 possible solutions here

    1. Did you try changing the channel on the a/v sender? most of them have 2-4 different channels selectable usually by a switch on the back of each unit. (1 on sender & 1 on each reciever)

    2. Could you relocate your router if it is close to either the a/v reciever or sender?

You could also try changing the channel used by the wifi router.

Thanks but I've changed the channel on the wifi router, makes no difference, and there's no switches on the av senders.

I'm picking a digital av sender up at argos today so i'll see if that makes a difference.

Great thing about Argos if it doesn't work is they will take it back no quibble.

Nah didn't work, the senders were not digitial, despite being called "digisender"

    No joy.

    Can anyone help ?

Somtims to change the channel on the sender you have to open it up. Use this in conjucntion with changing the channel on the wireless router. You could also out a hi-gain antenna on the WiFi point but the results could be unpredictable.

    Failing that, 5Ghz senders.

It does seem odd that it interferes with all 11 channels though.

I tried to use AV senders in my setup with no success - the thing just kept picking up interference from everything and refused to work from more than a few cms apart. For me the solution was to get a SlingBox to send my TV signal to any computer I want but this is a proprietary solution geared more towards watching TV, rather than recording (that's all I needed so it suits my needs). The new SlingPlayer 2.0 beta software has some PVR capabilities (like pause/rewind live TV/60 minute buffer) but no native recordings. However, unlike the AV sender, the quality is great, no problems with the connection and solid performance.

Is it possible to run a cable from your sky box to your HTPC?

best quality is from svideo over cat 5 cable. Simply run one cat5 cable and get sender and reciever at each end works a dream, and included remote control.

I got one from Keene Electronics in the uk and its excelent.
