Norton Internet Security Install

    Hi folks,

Trying to install Norton Internet Security 2008 on my machine but when I get to a certain stage, it tells me that it can't install it as there are still files relating to a previous version on my pc.

However, I searched for such files, found them and deleted them and tried again but it's saying the same thing.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Did you delete them from the registry too?

Try using the Norton removal tool:
    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

As a side note, I'm fairly sure almost everyone here will agree that Norton is a terrible product. Anything it does can be done better, and for free.
I can recommend Avira, AVG, and Avast as alternatives.

    No I don't.

Just downloaded the Internet Security zip file from Avira there and can't see any .exe file to install it.

    Not my day today...

And regarding the registry, not going to go near that. Don't want to mess with things when I have no clue!

    Thanks folks.

    Steer clear of Norton.

    Stick to AVG or AVAST.

Also, is there any such thing as Internet Security, Anti-virus and Firewall all in one or do you have to get each one individually?

Clearly I have no idea about computers!

    Thanks again,

    K.

    Thanks again for that Headshot.

Now, I have some more questions!...

Firstly, I have installed AVG and it located 30 odd threats and put them in its "Vault".

However, some of these may be needed to run the computer as my pc is working really slowly (takes 5 mins to start, and 1.5/2 mins to connect to internet even though I supposedly have a 2 mbit connection).

So, I presume I need to clean these and get them back to the main pc? If so, how do i clean them? AVG doesn't seem to be offering to do so. It just asks if I wish to Restore them but doesn't actually offer to clean/fix the affected files.

Finally, what can I do to speed up my pc in general, particularly in start-up?

I have deleted some stuff off the Hd and it is now only 2/3 full (24gb out of 36 available).

But she's still slow as hell.

Thanks for any help you can give.

    K.

    Strange...

Ever since I installed AVG last week, I cannot access some sites.

E.g. hotmail. Also, I can go to google.com but when I try to search for something, the progress bar appears but does not start to fill up.

When I did a scan, AVG told me of 35 threats and offered to put them in the vault. I then deleted them.

Could this be the reason that I cannot access some sites on the Internet?

    Ps. What's a Win32 file?

    Thanks.

I bet you installed the link scanner thats why your computer is down to a crawl..

Ooo and can you give some info on the type of files/ names of the virus's that were found by AVG ..?

Read here on how to setup AVG 8..

I tried that for a while but put it back on as felt I wouldn't be as well protected without having it on.

Have just restarted the computer now and a message saying "This application failed to start because wlanappi.dll was not found...."

And after clicking ok on that, there's another box that says "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32ikybtxti.dll....the appication could not be found".

I take it these are 2 of the files that I deleted from the Vault.

Which is another thing I'd like to know, when AVG finds viruses/threats and puts them in the log, do you have to send them to AVG to be fixed or will AVG fix them?

Also, now that I have deleted files from the Vault, what can I do to replace them? Are they gone off the pc altogether?

    Thanks a lot.

    K.
