Will there ever be new public holidays brought in to bring us closer to the european average of public holidays?

As far as im aware the last public holiday was added in 1994? If there is to be a pay freeze perhaps a couple of extra days holidays should be guaranteed to people?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I tried it in State Benefits and it was ignored.

I'm not sure what the European average is at present.

My wife is semi-state, she receives Good Friday & Christmas Eve as additional public holidays which I dont get in the private sector. She also gets 2 extra annual leave days than I do & a guaranteed sick leave entitlement of up 7 days a year. They take these 7 days as holidays/duvet days aswell.

I know people who receive an extra day of leave per year of service, good incentive to stay if your some time with the one company.

Back to your initial query OP, I would like to see an extra holiday between the first week in August & Halloween, that's too long of a run at present.

January 1st to March 17th is a long enough stretch aswell. I think one in February and the first monday in July would be pretty great. Its during summer most of our holidays should be.

I looked up public holidays in wikepedia. Thats where i saw about the european average.

Is there anything people can do to push for extra Public holidays?
