I've got a tv and i can only tune in channel 4 e4 and discovery. Anyone know what the problem might be. I'm with upc cable. I tried it a numerous points in the house and its the same story. I don't think its a reception issue as i've no problems with any other tvs.

Did the TV come from another country?

I can't remember exactly but we use UHF where as UK use VHF (or vice-versa) and UK TV's won't tune Irish stations.

    In England they use uhf.
Here we use vhf on our cable system,
The only way out of that would be an Irish video put the cable through it and select the video channell on the tv and then you can watch the cable thriugh the video , but you will not be able to watch one chanel and record an other one at the same time.

Bought in powercity so I presumed it would work in Ireland. I think that must be the problem, I have it thrown up in the attic at the moment so i can't check what bands its scans on. Its not worth the hassle if i need a video with it. thanks anyway for the replies.

Maybe it has a seperate option to scan either VHF or UHF.

Make sure you select Ireland in the setup, as it may activate the cable-ready analogue tuner.

As mentioned by a previous poster, UK Televisions only tune to UHF channels. TVs sold for the Irish market should have a VHF tuner on board as it is used for cable tv here and also for RTE 1 / 2 in some parts of the country, although it's largely phased out.

They're reputable and easy to deal with if something is returned. Some sets ask you what country you're in and then scan accordingly.

    Hiya

All the TVs bought from Powercity will work on NTL (UPC) cable systems. Most of them, as said, MUST be set to "Ireland" in the Country or Region settings, otherwise it will skip most of the beginning of the band when doing the auto-tune. E4, Channel 4 and Discovery are in the highest part of the band on NTL (start of the UHF band) so pretty much all TVs will generally pick these up.

    What make/model is the set?
