    Anyone been on this canal?

Which company did you go with?

    What was it like?

Is there netting on windows to stop mossies getting in etc so you can leave windows open during the night ?

Haven't cruised on it although have walked along it many time. My family own a house in one of the villages along the route, it's a truly stunning part of the country. As far as I have always seen, the boats seem very well equipped indeed, with all mod-cons available to you. I've never found the mozzies bad on CDM to be honest. What route do you intend taking? The villages along the way are so picturesque, you will love it.

There is another thread on it here - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055308891

    But to answer your questions!
We booked through Emerald Star and we went from Narbonne. http://www.leboat.ie/
Now - we were on the Canal Du Midi in Oct and it was still very warm! No mossie nets, so if you're going to have lights on you HAVE to have your windows closed! At night we just turned off all the lights before we opened the windows.
The Rick Stein 'French Odyssey' book is worth reading before you head on the Canal. Or even watch the episodes that involve this area.

It was one of my favourite holidays - I love the pace, the food, the weather. The canal is very pretty and the locks are easy to use (if you have a bike, get someone to cycle ahead and open the locks for you). Sitting out every night drinking wine that you just bought from a Chateau! It's really a great relaxing holiday. Looking back I think Oct was too late in the year, most places were closing up for the season. So if I were to go again, I'd head in mid-late Sept.
