Still haven't got around to buying it. Looks amazing though.

Must dig up the second edition of this.

    Neither are exactly narratives though.

    Might be a lighter read.

There's a nice, plus-sized paperback compiling the first ten issues of Tape Op that's worth checking out here.

Mixing with Your Mind looks like hella vanity press, but it's chock full of interesting and enlightening reading.

I think Walter Murch's In the Blink of an Eye is fascinating, and while it's nominally a lecture on film editing, it's really a series of anecdotes and guidelines that would benefit anyone who makes artistic decisions. I recommend that one earnestly. Murch, btw, has a pretty awesome CV, boasting editing and sound design credits for The Conversation, Apocalypse Now, The English Patient, and more.

J'adore - The Dance Music Manual by Rick Snoman

A reference rather than a "read"......

    Editorial Reviews
    Mid-American Review
A brisk and heartfelt coming-of-age story of a misfit growing up with more than the usual burdens of living in a tourist trap.

    Review
"In short, Snoman knows what he's talking about." - Remix

    LOL :pac:

Depends whether you are into it or not.. But its got great tips / tricks / info etc.. that are cross-compatible at the end of the day IMO.

    Kill Your Friends
    by John Niven

A really funny and in my experience true insight into the business of music for anyone that still wants a deal with a major label.

Recording The Beatles is amazing but not appropriate for taking on holiday, too big and too precious. The TapeOp compilation would be deadly but also a bit big. How about Revolution In The Head? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Revolution-Head-Beatles-Records-Sixties/dp/0712666974/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219003300&sr=1-3

I am now on my way to Amazon to order most of the books on this thread. Nice 1.

    Mixerman Diaries! http://www.mixerman.net/diaries_main.php

Think I read recently they're out of print or something but if you can get your hands on a copy it's a fun read.

Had a read of that. Very good! Might pick up the book at some stage. Do ya know Niall who the guy is or who the band is?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 60 ✭✭le_tigre

I'm not Niall - er, well. Mixerman's identity is a closely guarded secret, and speculation continues to this day. Bitch Slap were a fictional band, although I imagine his dealings with real bands over the years contributed to their characters.
