    Hi,

Anyone have any experience setting up a premium rate SMS service?

What steps are involved? What software/hardware is required to run it?

Oh and it's not a nasty subscription service I have in mind - something actually useful! ;)

    Thanks,

    Joe

Well, my info's probably a bit out of date but it used to be that the network operators ran a combined "broker" platform. You got one list of prices with breakdowns of the revenue sharing per SMS from each network, so if you get a message from a user on network A you get more than from a user on network B. Service operators cut ranged from 10% to 50% depending on the cost of the SMS. You don't need any hardware, just a pc and an internet connection. It's tough going, which probably explains why most services are lowest common denominator stuff.
