I have Ulcerative Collitis and get frequent IBS symptoms. It occurs when the lining of the gut becomes inflamed and you get cramps and [usually] diarrhoea. Due to the fact that the gut is inflamed, the person's diet may suffer too as nutrients fail to become absorbed. In fact, Anaemia (low Iron count) is a side-condition of IBS.

I've got IBS. I get pains in my stomach, and I swing between constipation and diarrhea. Stress and being nervous make it worse, and not eating properly is a big no-no. By that I mean I can't skip meals, or if I'm really hungry if I eat something small my stomach hurts so much. I have to eat proper amounts and proper times. Sometimes it hurts so much I can't stand up, and sometimes it makes my back hurt as well. Its not that much fun:)

Are you sure that the pains are coming from your stomach, adastra? (The stomach is roughly just below the heart, by the way.) Anyway, I get such severe cramps too that I have to sit down. My cramps emanate from my large intestine though... ...it can be excrutiating at times.

I get IBS symptoms, cramps usually low in my abdomen ,diarrhea at least a few times a week , worse when im nervous or stressed. Heartburn and bloating also.
Start a food diary and see if there's a patern , wheat and dairy often don't agree with people so maybe try and cut them out, eat small and regularly and plenyt of fibre, don't let yourself get too hungry. Imodium is great if you have a bout of diarrhea, but if you need to take it very often it might be an idea to see your doctor
