I'm just about to get my GUI handicap as a distance member...if I'm playing with another GUI handicap player in a casual round in another golf club can that score card be submitted to go against my handicap?

    thanks.

My understanding is that the answer is no. In saying that, if your score card is better than handicap they'll adjust down. But not up

I believe a casual round can now be counted for handicap purposes. They are referred to as Supplementary Scores. "An acceptable score for Supplementary Score purposes is any authenticated score over 18 holes under Competition Play Conditions over a Measured Course in compliance with the conditions listed in this clause. The format may be Stroke Play or Stableford". I take this to mean a casual game, but has the characteristics of a competition i.e. scores marked etc

In order to qualify for the return of a Supplementary Score a player must have returned only six or fewer Qualifying Scores (excluding Supplementary Scores) in the preceding period

You must inform your Home club that you will be submitting a Supplementary Score before you actually play - not sure what format this actually takes

These are designed to reflect an accurate playing handicap for those players that (for what ever reason) do not partake in many club competitions.

I maybe wrong in my interpretation, but thats what I take from it.

That's for handicap adjustments i think though isn't it? I took the original post to mean he was submitting cards for his handicap? Maybe i picked him up wrong.

Yes, Supplementary Scores would be for adjustments after you firstly have obtained your GUI handicap. Where you don't wish to partake in many competitions, but still wish to hold a valid GUI handicap.

I think the handicap software at annual review time would list a member that has played in 4 or fewer competitions during the year, it only takes a committee member to say "lets blank this guy as he doesn't play much in this club" for you to lose your handicap, unfair if you really are only a casual golfer (and there is nothing wrong with being that)
