Farewell to a great jock and proper gentleman. Always felt I got a run for my money when Mick was on board. Let's hope Channel 4 sign him up ASAP to liven up their dying racing coverage. Very intelligent and funny man, he'd be an asset to any TV coverage.

Fav Mick moment was in the Grand National a couple of years ago. He was being interviewed before the race and was saying that the most important thing to do in the race was avoid being in a crowd at the first fence as some less experienced jockeys might not be able for it and fall and you could end up being brought down.

Mick then falls himself at the first and the interviewer reminds of him of his earlier statement to which he replies with a big grin "It was very disappointing as the horse was travelling really well" :D

Yes indeed best of luck to Mick in whatever he does in the future. There's no doubt he would be an asset to any racing programme with his knowledge, unbiased views, straight and articulate talking and his very friendly manner. It's just a pity he will find himself in the company of some right clowns currently populating the racing shows and channels. He was on ATR the other day with that intolerable Robert Cooper with all his unfunny and boring comments and amateur presenting/interviewing skills but as usual Mick was the consumate professional.I don't know how he does it.I would be fit to throttle the likes of Cooper.
