If i may help you out.

Dont use the UK website unless your in the north. I almost went mad after trying to get something shiped.
You can get anything the uk website has by sending off an email to our new guy Davemc@richersounds.ie or by ordering from richersounds.ie
Tell them your a boards member and I think its still only €20 to send it down south. Good luck.

Just a bit of advice -

I bought this tv from richersounds at a price hundreds of yo yos less than in this country. The gripe is that the factory settings for the picture are complete sh!te. I spent about 2 hours a night for 5 nights trying to improve the picture and ended up completely annoyed to the point that I was on the verge of returning it. However, I was sent the recommended settings and if you want, I can send on a link that a fellow Boardsie sent me to give the optimal picture settings. When these are input (together with the recent firmware update), the picture improves considerably.

    Hey,

Yeah I've read that about them (and all your threads) and read the very long thread on AVForums about it. Its unfortunite that the default settings are so poor. You would nearly want to be an AV Engineer to work some of theses TV's!!

I agree and if it wasn't for some great help from another Boardsie, I'd never have come close to getting the best settings for this tv. I still can't understand why samsung release a tv with such awful settings. I've a ps3 (blu ray player) and Casino Royale looked absolutely terrible on the tv with the factory settings. In places it looked like a badly streamed clip from youtube (all pixelated and with motion blur). I was horrified when I saw this as I was expecting a crystal clear picture. It is pretty good now though with the new settings.

    Hi Dave,

Was reading all the recent threads on this and I got the 46" series 6 too from RS and have been very happy with no need to adjust any settings. I got mine about 4 weeks ago so I am guessing the firmware update must have been applied already.

I am now about to order the 40" version too for the playroom (my room too when I need to get away from the madness in our house:D )

They are great sets! I get the Onkyo 606 too - toyed with getting 875 but thought it might be more than I needed. Got the Monitor Audio setup too and have been impressed so far. Don't get to crank it up much - maybe the family might leave me at home this weekend and I can give it a rip. Just moved into a new detached house so had to get good sounds:D

Jeez Paddy, you honestly didn't have to adjust any settings??? Now that is bloody annoying as I spent wasted hours fiddling with the settings before I managed to get a decent picture and you get one that's fine out of the box - now I know someone up there hates me :D.

I too live in a detached house and I have a wife who goes home to Mayo to see her family every once in a while so I can crank my Onkyo 875 all the way up - that tremor you feel on the richter scale is just me and Black Hawk Down :D:D.

As for buying the 40 inch version, well I'd be a little hesitant buying another samsung series 6 after my initial problems with this one but who knows, if it stays on its best behaviour, I might get one for the kids playroom so my, eh sorry, their Wii games will be on a bigger display.

    Hi Dave,

No, did not mess around at all. Was blown away with the quality from the off. I had a 40" Samsung for a few years - pre when they started doing series 4 & 5 etc - guess it was series 3:D. I have bought Samsung's through work for friends and family and 2 did give issues - dead lines of pixels and dead set altogether - but both times they were taken away direct by Samsung's agent and fixed with no questions asked - so this is why I have stuck with them. I know friends who have Sony's etc and, when problems occured, were told to take it back to the shop! Some of the older LCD's pack a few pounds. The light weight design was another thing I really like about the series 6 as it makes them easier to hang on the walls.

Overall I am very happy with it and figure I will get the 40" too. Unfortunately my crew are too young to appreciate the Wii but that does not stop us:D

I have to agree with you there paddy, I have found the 6 series to be a super tv in every except for its sound when watching movies......nothing that a decent Amp and speakers wont fix. I know Dave had a bad experience at first but I wouldnt let that put me off buying another samsung.
Just in case you dont know do NOT use the cloth that comes with it to clean it..........it just scratches the surface and will ruin the finish. How they can sell a TV with a cloth thats abrasive is beyond me.

    Hi guys.

Unfortunately our UK operation has decided to not stock this TV any longer....possibly due to issues with stock availability.

We are trying to get an account with Samsung direct, but Samsung have had an issue over the last while with supply and for a while they were not taking on any new accounts, so not sure how this will progress.

We can offer alternatives at very competitive prices, but unfortunately the Samsung looks like it's not going to be one that we are running with for a while anyway.

Sorry to all of you who were interested.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,450 ✭✭✭blastman

I presume this applies to all Samsung models, Dave? :( That's a pity. Could you (or anyone else) recommend a similar specced 46" LCD as an alternative?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,650 ✭✭✭shayser

Dave, there are still 15 different Samsung's listed on your web site, starting here:

    http://www.richersounds.com/productlist.php?cda=productlist&sgroup=LCD2&sort=manufacturer&pg=2&hidethumbs=false

And a "Samsung LCD TV Bargain" on your homepage.

Are they available, or has the site not yet been updated?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,679 Mod ✭✭✭✭Rew

The free DVD player is a Samsung promotion AFAIK, all the retialers should be able to offer it. 1599 is good but not as good as what Richersounds were doing.

    All,

I am only seeing this TV in this rose black colour which seems to have a red hue off it. Is this the only way this is now available or is there a jet black version also?

+1 on this. Or have you been able to source the 656's since?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,450 ✭✭✭blastman

Also waiting to hear about this, as I'm pretty much decided it's a Samsung I want.

We have a pretty good relationship with Samsung via our guys in the UK, but they were having availability problems on the 46" so they have pulled the model as it was causing us hassle with customers asking and not being able to supply.

Unfortunately we don't call the shots as far as Samsung are concerned as the account is with our UK guys, but what I can say is that if there is a TV on the .com site which does not say "last few to clear", then we should be able to supply without too much hassle.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Dave,

I think what everyone is wondering when Richersounds are likely to stock the latest Samsung models, the 46A656 is pretty much made obsolete by the 46A756, 46A786 and 46A956. There's no stock showing up in Ireland yet (I checked with aht e Republic Samsung distributer and there telling me 5 weeks). There on the shelfs and in stock with UK shops and web sites though. I think were all eagerly awaiting Rischersounds prices as their uasually so good :D

The 6 series should still remain very current for some time to come - hope it does as I have 2:eek:

You can still buy series 4 and 5's in most stores, the 6 series is a little more though cause it has the 100Hz on most models whereas 4's and 5's are mostly standard hz, but some 5's are 1080p.

For what its worth the 9's look like they are going to be a good bit more wonga as they seem to use a new brighter type of LED backlit LCD as opposed to all the standard CCFL current models. Not really a massive amount of difference on 7's and 8's except for some type of ability to hook them to the Internet...

Its near impossible to keep up with all the models and technology as it changes so fast and new models out the whole time. What happened to the days of owning the old tube TV's for 15 years and giving it a bang on top when the picture went:D

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,679 Mod ✭✭✭✭Rew

The 7 has 2 models, the 756 and the 786. The 756 is like an updated Series 6 656 with extra features that arn't any great shakes. The 786 is LED back lit which is a big deal as it gives much much better levels of black then the current gen of CCFL back lit LCD's. The TV turns off or dims the LEDs in the areas of the screen that are dark/black. It lacks some of the multimedia features of the 756The 8's are just extra slim but no big deal. The 9 has been reviewed as the best LCD on the market, LED back lit similarand has all the extra's crammed in.

Yeah its just a marketing ploy to keep people gagging for the 'latest' model, when they could just as easily have released all the new features on the one set. But then they wouldn't have anything new to announce for a couple of years or any way to make people keep forking out for the latest minor update.
