Swap my fully rebuilt TR7 - need 4 seats!

Well, my 1977 Inca yellow TR7 has become impractical - I need 4 seats (or 2+2).

The car has had over 6000 euros spent on it over the last 5 years and both looks and drives superb. All bodywork is metal - no rust or filler or fibreglass. Drives great and has had numerous upgrades - 15" alloys from an MGF, uprated adjustable shocks and springs front and rear, upgraded brakes, electronic ignition etc. etc. Full set of receipts and photographic record of rebuild.

Car has done 70000 miles from new and, being 1977 is 46 euros per year tax and doesn't need NCT.

Before I advertise it, I wondered if anyone here would be interested in a swap?

I need to carry my 2 kids on occasion so it has become impractical and I don't want to run 2 cars.

If anyone is interested, the car must have at least 2+2 seating, must be tax free (only way I can justify running a classic to my wife!) be reliable and in good (not necessarily immaculate) condition. It must also be reasonably economical! I use the car every day so it must be capable of 10k miles per year with regular maintenance.

I would love an imp (preferably sport or Californian) but anything more practical considered!

Value wise, I would do a straight swap or cash my way - having just moved house I have no cash to put into it.

    So, anyone interested?

    Car is in Co. Wicklow.

Actually, the picture was taken in Wales! I suppose its similar to Bray only the people talk funny!!!!!

Love the box! Actually I love my car but it struck home this weekend when we moved house that not only could I not transport many belongings at a time but I couldn't even take my 2 kids so the rear seat could be folded on my wifes car!

Hah! Those wheels look the right job on it. Best of luck with the sale. I saw a similar Tr7 at a vintage show in Clare last weekend, was yellow as well, haven't seen on in ages.

Just to give a quick summary of work done to the car;-

2 new front wings and arches
    2 new sills
2 rear, lower valance (out and inner)
New deck welded in for petrol cap housing
    New windscreen
    New seals around windows
    Re-sprayed in two-pack
    Underside cleaned, wax-oiled and under-sealed
    Uprated and lowered springs
    Adjustable dampers
    Vented discs
    Larger callipers
    Copper brake pipes
    Braided brake hoses
New petrol tank with copper feed
    Polybush all round
    Kenlowe fan
New distributor, leads, cap, rotor arm
    New coil
    electronic ignition
    USA bumpers, front and rear
    New carpets and door panels
    Seats re-foamed
MGF alloys with matching Michelin tyres

My wife is starting to get angry at me still having a 2 seater with a family!

So, come on - anyone want to own this great fun TR7 in return for a more practical classic?

I haven't put any value on the car, just let me know if you are interested and what you have! I would much prefer to do this than sell the car then buy another.

your car is very nice hawever i think you would have been better off putting the effort and expense into a convertible one.

Problem with the convertibles is they weren't made until 1980/1981 so I would have had to pay import duty when I bought it (was bought in the UK, now on Irish plates) and I would have had to pay tax on a 2 litre as it wouldn't have been 30 years old.

HI mmarks I love your tr7 it looks beautiful. I have the convertible and took the vrt sting and yearly tax. Fhc are so cheap in the uk now as they have a different classic year to us and a fhc tr7 can be had pretty cheaply. There is a firm in england who will convert your tr7 to 4 seats but I guess its Going to be expensive so out of the question. However thats all I can tell you good luck with the sale.
