GAA on RTE.ie ...what exactly is the point of this ? The quality is awful, I dont know what technology it is they are using but there has got to be something better out there. The football is bad enough but hurling... its laughable.

Why dont they have a high quality stream option ? I would not mind waiting 5 mins for buffering if I thought i would be actually able to see some level of detail. Its not enough to see pixelated people in Black and Amber.. running around a big green surface after 15 people in Red ... absolutely fecking pointless.

does anyone know why they even bother ?
Or is there something wrong I'm doing ? i have checked as many settings as I could but maybe I'm missing something ?

Yeah. It's not that easy watch. It's probably just to keep down the size. I know Channel 4 allows you to watch programmes you have missed online. I have never tried but I'm sure the quality isn't as poor as on RTÉ.

It used to be quite good but now it is a mess.

I've watched the Sunday Game on it once or twice when I've missed it on the Sunday night, and seen a bit of live television, sports included. I didn't have any major problems with it. I suppose there are a lot of factors in it, like your software, hardware, internet connection and not least, your expectations. Keep it in the small window as it does give better quality than when you maximise it.

The RTE bu**ers pulled the plug on us in the UK receiving a much used streamed service to watch GAA. Now even the Sunday Game, which doesn't conflict with Satanta profit-making, is out of bounds.

Another pet hate of mine is GAA on gaa.ie, especially the results section. If they do in fact show Intermediate County hurling results at all, I can never seem to find them. Perhaps that code is overseen by another body???? And one would imagine that a flagship site would give U-21 and U-18 scores not long after a game has finished, instead of a few days later!!!

Just as well the hoganstand messageboards and occasionally Aertel are around to provide that service.

Your graphics card will make a difference. If you have a poor graphics card then the quality is atrocious but if you have a decent one then the quality is quite a bit better.
"Better" is a relative term of course - it's still relatively poor overall and can only really be watched in a small window. Watching it "full-screen is not really an option.

I assume the reason RTE stick with realplayer is because of lower size realplayer files mean less bandwidth needed for RTE and less server servers and thus less cost for them overall.

I'm open to correction but is the Sunday Game not just time delayed - i.e. it's available later in the week for locations outside Ireland?

Yes, I believe it's available worldwide from the following Wednesday.

The quality of the media player has gone downhill in the past year/18 months. When they first launched it the quality was excellent, and you could go full screen and it would be easily watchable. Now it seems to be heavily pixelated and rife with buffering delays.

Thanks for letting me know about the Wednesday "Sunday Game" in the UK. I didn't know. I suppose better late than never.

I have a fairly hi spec WMC PC, dual core amd, Nivida geforce 7300 with 512 cache, 2Gb RAM, thats faster than your average PC i think. i have 1MB up and down (that includes contention) and still the quality is rubbish. Not just for live streams but for play back too...

I used to watch streaming movies and programs on stage 6... now thats quality..
Channel 4's streams are quality too. I think RTE have done a half assed job... I think I will write a letter of complaint. Your either going to invest in online broadcasting or your not.

RTE is crap. I appriciate the effort but I dont see what the point is, if the viewing experiance is going to be soooo poor why bother.

I have watched some games and found it very watchable.

Alany 1 meg upload who gives you that?

I've watched one or two maches on it this summer and it's been watchable... not perfect. Of course if you blow the picture up to full screen it becomes pixelated - but thats bound to happen. I've heard RTE are working on a media player - something along the lines of the bbc iplayer - so that has to be a step in the right direction

Setanta want to make a profit. Good God, what's next?

RTÉ do not hold the rights to broadcast certain things on the internet outside of Ireland. That is why you cannot watch them.

Irish Broadbands 2Mb product gives me 1MB up and down all day.. not too bad but i never ever get 2MB

im sorry perhaps its my failing eyes but i cant see the fecking Slithor watching online and I honestly expect better (NearTV ) quality when watching RTE...I know its possible a la stage 6 and many others... to me its not a quality product and I am going to have to be really desperate to watch it again.
