Wasted weekends

Is it just me or does anyone else hate getting completely wasted at the weekends?

I absolutely love it in the moment but after all is said and done and you have your money well spent and you've just puked up a half eaten jambon it really does send one into a retrospective mood.

Just this last weekend I was either drunk or passed out from about 9pm thursday right up to 8am today (not including my shambolic performance in work on Friday). I know I had a great time but I've already forgotten so much of it.

Seriously... there must be more to life? What's everyone else who's single, doing the Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and in their 20's doing with themselves?

I live for the weekends and going out.
I do be in work all week and its nice to get away from it all and have some drunken fun. I'm sure I'll get fed up with it soon or I may settle down but I don't see that happening just yet. I'm having too much fun. Hopefully I won't regret it.

Don't get me wrong.. I love drinking, I just feel like I could be doing so much more.

It would probably be grand if I didn't get a hangover the whole time.

Not a great idea...unless you want to imitate a narcoleptic for most of the following day.

Is it just me or do hangovers get worse witih age?? Im 25 now and I get depressed til about Wednesday after a weekend drinking!! I dont get sick or anything just not interested in doing anything!! I never had this problem before, I have started to cut down a bit and feel a bit better but that isnt an option every weekend!!

    really?Tell us more.

Unless you've tried them its hard to describe. In truth, not everyone may experience it but when I tried them, I spent the entire next day trying to keep my eyes open. Its just non stop fatigue instead of hangover. I'm not sure which I'd prefer!

    O'rly?
I've used them many a time. Haven't used one in ages though as I don't bother drinking when I've got something important on the next day.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. It really depends on what you've been drinking and for how long.
Works well if you just drink pints. You should eat plenty of meat and take one, better chance of working then.

I do enjoy a few beers and gettin drunk but hate getting wasted, nobody is cool when drunk, they can be hilarious, but not cool, especially when crackin into women

Yes. I used to be able to drink every weekend, all weekend. Now, one night on the lash and I'm out of action physically and mentally for about 4 days after. :(

First, Yes - hangovers (in my experience) get worse with age.

Second, I agree with the OP. I love going out, and I love drinking, but sometimes it's just too much.

Example: I went to Los Angeles a few years ago (I was 19), saw the sites and went out to the clubs, etc. I didn't drink (much) as the drinking age is 21. Los Angeles is actually a pretty dirty city, but I had fun.
I went to Los Angeles a few weeks ago (I'm 25) and was drunk from the Wednesday night I arrived until the Sunday morning I left. If I woke up with a hangover, my friends and I went down to the hotel bar for a drink which made it go away, and we just kept drinking the whole time so we wouldn't get a new hangover in the first place.

Besides spending zillions at bars and clubs, it didn't seem to make the city any nicer, the people better-looking, and I didn't have much more fun compared to when I was there "underaged."

Point: drinking is fun, and it's not bad if you pace yourself, take an aspirin, and drink better liquors (or a combination), but sometimes it's just not worth it.

Been there done that, have the scars. But maturity is a great thing and with it come's great responsibility... so I'll just state one word for those still in their 20's, take heed as this is invaluable advice...

    mod·er·a·tion
1.the quality of being moderate; restraint; avoidance of extremes or excesses; temperance.

I'm thankful that I don't get hangovers any more, not if I stick to the lager.
That and drink 2 litres of water going to bed. There's nothing worse than
getting into work on a Monday in bad shape - so don't drink do anything on Sunday.
There's a lot to be said for going off the beer for a while too, especially when
you know you won't remember much after.

i love the weekends, getting wasted is excellent. i love going out with me mates and having something to talk about for the next few days and then having something to look forward to. to be honest, i cant see how anybody would want to stay in at weekends.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,070 ✭✭✭✭pq0n1ct4ve8zf5

    I'm drunk right now :D
Personally, I'm now nineteen and a half, I started drinking at around 14 and up until a couple months ago enjoyed gettng wasted immensely. Prefer just getting tipsy now though, the only beneficial thing that's ever really come out of getting absolutely ****-faced is learning that if you only have jackdaniels and jagermeister left, it's not a good idea to just make a "cocktail" out of them. Also that I'm highly allergic to jagermeister. :( getting tipsy is more fun, and waking up a bit tired is definitely more fun than waking up simply because your hangover is too bad to possibly sleep through

Who said not drinking means staying in at the weekends? And who said drinking has to be done in a pub/club?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 825 ✭✭✭CtrlSource

Unless there's some special occasion taking place, a weekend spent wasted is indeed a wasted weekend. What's the point if you can't remember it? Where's the fun in feeling like crap for the first part of the week? People who say they live for the weekends (and by that mean they live for getting totally sloshed) must be lacking a lot in their lives.

It's nice to go out on the beer now and again and relive those student days. But getting totally wasted is not something i enjoy at all. i prefer to enjoy stuff in a relatively coherent state!

God I love a drink, however I seem to throw exercise and out-doorsyness into the melting pot too...to keep the balance.

I'm a person who drinks alone a fair bit. And no, I'm not depressed. I rarely find people who are like minded but hey, I would'nt be having a drink with them so what me matter.

Point is, yes I love a drink but Here are my limits...

I NEVER drink on a work night.
I dont over do it anymore....i.e. I havnt puked in roughly 2years.
    Boo to spirits.

I just want to laugh when drunk...

yeah i tried that drinking water before bed trick for a while. it made me sleepwalk.
then it made me sleep piss.
    in the fireplace
    in the hotpress
    under the stairs
    on other beds
    in wardrobes
    not good advice

    Snap as above all
Used to get pretty hammered over the weekends and the bad hangovers & blues started kicking in when I was 22. Realised later on, it was a mixture of attitude to drink and sh*tty friends (i.e. poor social skills and I usually had to 'entertain' them - hence drink more to tolerate some of them).
Have learned to 1. get better friends who actually know how to have a conversation 2. friends level of conversation extends further than what & who they did during the week 3.if you dont like someone dont drink to compensate as you only end up paying the price (out of pocket and out of mind on drink)

Love going out on the beer but recently the hangovers have been brutal. Completely unable to function the next and completely ratty and cranky. It's just not worth it anymore. So I've decided to give up the booze for a while and see how that goes, can be very weak willed so it'll be interesting.

Tuesdays are definitely the worst day. I think on Monday you're just concentrating on surviving and getting home but then on Tuesdays you're actually wondering why or how you still feel so bad.

Whats the big facination with weekends? Its only 2 days a week, and everyone goes out then. Dont get me wrong I do love the weekends but I think during the week drinking is way better.

And if you keep drinking you dont get hungover. I have been drunk since Christmas and loving it :D

Weekend schmeekends.. Tuesday morning drinking FTW!!!

I'm another in my mid twenties and getting the terrible hangovers that come with age. And its not fun, not fun at all.
If I drink a work night there is no longer a hope of making work the next day, so Sundays are ruled out for me.
And what about the demons the night after or perhaps the next night? Anyone get those? Lying in bed, staring at the wall at half 3 in the morning. Seeing faces and people. Hearing stuff.
As I said, not fun, not fun at all.

I love going out the weekends, seeing my friends , un-winding from the hard week doesn't mean you can't have hobbies, during the week I work, go to the gym, play football and do kickboxing...so i'm not really wasting anything...
