    Congratulations on your new purchase.
The wait for your licence is very much dependent on your local Superintendent and your relationship with your local Gardai in general.
Anything up to 3 months is considered 'normal', and some people have waited considerably longer.
As this is your first gun and you've gone for a fullbore rifle, I'd expect it to be on the longer end of the scale.
What Garda District are you in, someone here might be able to give some real world experience of licencing a similar gun?

Hi JJ, long time lurker and first time poster here. From Westport area also. I don't know if they've improved in Westport but I remember waiting 13 months for a licence for a .270 once upon a time ! Hoping to get a .223 myself soon, what did you pay for yours and where did you get it ?

I hope it has some decent glass on it for that money ! Ask the guy you're buying it off what worked for him, otherwise try as many different types as possible 'till you find what suits it best.

How did the member of the force you were talking to react ? That's quite often a fairly good impression of the lay of the land in the district. Quite often the person you talk to has a fairly good idea what the Super tends to approve or decline.

By the way, Zeiss is excellent glass. Match that with good mounts, which they probably are because people who buy good glass most likely don't use crap mounts, and you shouldn't get any scope trouble.
