    hi all,

    can someone tell me the difference between trap, skeet and sporting shotguns, i shoot clay pigeons with an u/o but got into a conversation recently about trap guns versus skeet guns versus sporting guns :rolleyes: and i was left a bit confused to say the least.

    thanks
    :)

    A bit confused
    Talk to trap shooters and you will be confused. :D:D

    This discussion could take pages - books have being written about this. :rolleyes:
    Short version.
    Skeet: shorter barrels (25 - 28) ,open chokes aka Skt 1 - .005 (45% of Pattern in 30" circle @ 40 yards - Skt 2 .010 .015 55% of Pattern in 30" circle @ 40 yards)

    Trap: Long barrels -28 34" tighter chokes 1/2 to full .025 - xfull .045 - (XF = 75% of Pattern in 30" circle @ 40 yards ) Trap guns differ from field and skeet guns in several ways and normally shoot higher than their counterparts as the targets are almost always shot on the rise.

    Sporting: 28-32 .015 .025 choke or a variety of screw in chokes.

    Get a good coach.Pattern your gun. Get fitted.

    Dedicated guns????:pac::D;):rolleyes:

    WHAT? I resent the implication........
    are you trying to say us trap shooters are implicit in arousing confusion over issues which when confused can be confused with issues which aren't confused even further confusing that which was said in the first place?:mad::mad::mad:

    If that's not confusing, then I don't know what is.

    Now you're talking sense...:)

    All joking aside D B hit the nail on the head. If you want to shoot any of the clay disciplines seriously - Trap - Sporting - Skeet, then you will probably need a dedicated gun for each. If not a good sporter with multi chokes will make a good all round gun. The most important point that DB makes is the gun must fit properly.

    Thanks guys,

    it's as I thought, I mainly shoot sporting and I use a Beretta with multi chokes which fits just fine but you know the way some people can get ( no offence to trap shooters intended ) but you know what i mean.
