Went to hurling semi in croker yesterday. Kilkenny can't be beaten. In every area of the field they just seem to dominate. Just can't see waterford or tipp getting the better of them in a final. Best of luck to the DUBS on saturday.

Every team is beatable and who ever wins next sunday will have a great chance as they will be complete underdogs and written off.

P.S. Tipp havent been beaten in a tournament, league, challenge or championship game in 13 months ;)

If it's the Deise, The Cats will be overwhelmed with sympathy and good will for their neighbours, stand back gracefully and allow that oft-discussed and long-deserved All-Ireland Deise-pensioner win.

They'll earn it if they win it and it will be a closer final than last year. If Tipperary meet them in the final they'll test them. Waterford will fall to bits as always. If they get passed Tipp that'll be there big game. Kilkenny will hammer them in a final. Tipp will have the better chance but realistically Kilkenny are deserved favourites.

Goals win games, any team that can score 3 or 4 Goals and then get some lucky breaks ( KK hitting cross bar twice etc) can win a game Tipp and Waterford have the capability to do both.

Kilkenny were brilliant yesterday. They made Cork look ordinary and kept them at arms length for most of the game. I thought Cork were going to really come close to beating them, but they just couldn't. It's not that Cork are in decline, their performances against Clare and Galway prooved that they are not, I just really think we are witnessing one of the greatest hurling teams ever in this Kilkenny team. They don't seem to have any weaknesses and their strength in depth is immense. If Tipp don't stop them this year (as I think they have the best chance of doing so), then they can even win another couple of All-Irelands. They just never seem to loose the hunger and the conveyor belt of talent coming through also helps.

a team that can win aerial ball against these kilkenny backs can beat them
along with stopping those two brilliant hurlers at midfield for the cats

I think/hope Tipp will run them close.

    Waterford won't.

That is a big ask of either Tipp or Waterford. Shanahan might cause aerial problems for Kilkenny if Waterford get through. Although Tipp can probably run the cats the closest, I don't know if their forwards have the aerial ability to compete with Kilkenny.

Tipp have beaten KK, albeit in the League and are on an upward curve of development. Who truly knows the extent of their progress? Kelly E. is a big big bonus this year. Waterford just might pull all of the armoury out of the fire on the remaining days that matter. It's never over until the Fat (not Cat) Lady sings......and plenty of good hurling left too.

I hope Tipp will win it but I too doubt that Kilkenny can be beaten. As a Cork person I'd love if they were and for neutral outsiders it would be nice to see a change but I doubt it this year.

They did not play Dublin this year and the last time we played them we drew. They need to beat Dublin to show their true class.

Tipp will make it a competitive final, but Kilkenny are just too good. Will win it by 6 or 7 points easily enough. They are one of the greatest sides of all time & its just near impossible to match.

Splendid , we're not proud - we'll take charity , sympathy or anything else going .....
To be honest, on last sunday's display the pick of Tipp and Waterford wouldn't have beaten KK.

Eh? Were you watching the league this year?

It's just not fair. Kilkenny have all the money and can afford to buy the best hurlers to win the Title. The GAA should deprofessionalise hurling immediately.

As someone earlier stated, every team is beatable. But I can't see them being stopped, this year at least.

I completely forgot about that, I remember the League being changed this year, we did not face Galway who we convincingly beat the year before, I thought they put KK in a different division to us.

After Kilkenny's performance against Cork, does anyone think Waterford or Tipperary could challenge the cats this year?

    Is this thread really necessary?!

Would just like to know if anyone thinks they could. I'm a Waterford man and personally i don't think either team could beat em. Just curious is all

    No and No.

Cats 1-10 Tipp 1-15 (tipp away)
Cork 1-13 Tipp 1-19 (tipp away)
    Cats 1-23 Cork 0-17
Can any half-blind fool not see from the above results this year coupled with Tipp being unbeaten in over 12 months not predict that Tipp on the form of the last 12 months coupled with 5 and 6 point away wins over the other two are not going to give Kilkenny at least a match presuming Waterford are beaten on sunday??(or maybe Kilkenny wanted to lose in nowlan Park to Tipp as will now be said!)

Hope it's a closer final, but you have to give Kilkenny their dues, they're a great team and will be remembered as a great Kilkenny team.

That doesn't really hold any relevance.Kilkenny can hockey teams like Offaly and Wexford and not even go into 2nd gear. They then come back after a long lay off and dispose of Cork in impressive fashion and that Kilkenny team might have been ring rusty.Tipperary have to get past Waterford and that is not easy. They say when Dan Shanahan is on form,Waterford are on form but I would expect Tipp to beat Waterford.

However, come the final, this is Kilkenny at their best much like Kerry in the football.Tipp could go into the final all fired up and once they leave the tunnel and walk out off the aisle onto the Croke Park soil,it can go wrong for them just there.Based on ability,Tipp would give Kilkenny a real go but sometimes this is not always the case and strong teams can collapse from the off on big days.

The semi-final may prove too dizzy a height for Tipperary. They could be the new Waterford.

What in the name of god holds relevance other than a teams unbeaten form for 13 months including beating the "invincible" ones on their own turf?? Would Kilkenny going to Pairc Ui Chaoimh and winning by 6 points against Cork not warrant a mention compared to Kilkenny beating Cork by 9 in Croke Park??What is the big difference in performances that makes one team invincible from 2 very similar results in my view?

Kilkenny are not invincible and there is nothing to suggest that they are but lets look at it this way...on paper Tipp woul give KK the match of a lifetime but there is the possibility that Tipp could turn up to Croke Park for a final and choke. It happened Mayo and Cork in football and Limerick last year.

Plus, everybody knows that league and championship are two different kettles of fish.Kilkenny wait until the All Ireland Final to play their match of the season,it may be the case where Tipp have to do so just to get to the final.

Of course Tipp can beat them but I'm bein level headed in my approach.I've seen too many finals turn into a disaster after mch hype.Anyway,we have to see what Waerford do this Sunday as well. There are no guarantees Tipp will make the final and this talk of form over the last year may mean nothing this Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭run_Forrest_run

if Tipp were to make it to the final I don't see them choking anyway, Tipp would never choke against their great rival Kilkenny but as Blackbelt mentioned, far too often has a final suffered a dose of anti-climaxitis due to media etc over-hyping a game between two strong teams.

I also feel Kilkenny are not invincible and sure the players know that themselves..I feel anything can happen on the day, it all depends on how players react to given circumstances.

However I do hope the Cats will take the three-in-a-row but it ain't over until it's over.

If it's Tipp in the Final (on form, it should be) what Kilkenny will fear most is their goal-scoring ability. That's the one thing that Kilkenny's Championship opponents to date have not had and which could turn the game Tipperary's way. Similar to Kilkenny, they have the ability to knock off well-timed long-range points. Waterford on their day can provide a similar threat. It's never over until it's over, as rFr says.
