I am sure its probably cropped up before, But I couldnt seem to find any information on it when I went back through the pages but couldn't find anywhere.

Me and a mate have been playing the last couple of years, but never bothered with Handicaps.

We our both looking to get an official Handicap to start playing in some open competitions etc..

But was just wondering, is anyone a distance member from a club down the country?

We were looking at getting 3 rounds in over a weekend to get our GUI,

Does anyone do this if so where? or does anyone know of any good clubs that do this?

If not, does anyone know of any clubs doing deals on membership in the dublin area. Although would be willing to travel as far as bodenstown etc..

I was looking at joining Dublin Mountain. there doing a good deal from July - Dec with the option of renewing for the Calender year in January for 799 or 599 if I can bring someone into the club with me.

But to be honest, not sure if I am a huge fan of the course.

Apologies if I am repeating a previous post...

And thanks in advance for any advice given

    Mick

You could probably get into a club down the country for a lot less than 599. Sounds as though if you're looking to play opens then paying the extra to join somewhere up here won't really benefit you. The only benefit would be that you could nip out on your own course (in Dublin) every now and then when there was no open on elsewhere.

You can go to these country courses and play the three rounds in a weekend or couple of days. Lots of guys do this. Just book into a b&b or something and do it that way.

Slievenamon is very popular with this type of thing. They actually welcome it.

Looks a nice place to play golf! Sounds like you're going down the right route.

Rathdowney co. laois is a fine course that I have played junior cup in and enjoyed it. Should be fairly accessible too (motorway is nearby?)
    €290 for a country membership

Belturbet in Co. Cavan offer great deals on distace Memberships - approx €170per year including all green fees. Excellent value and not to far from Dublin. Also Corallis Links in Donabate Co. Dublin offer full Membership for €375. Green fee are reduced at €11 for members - also excellent value!

GolfJunkie, what do you think of Belturbet?? A little nine hole course, to be honest I know it quite well but am interested to see what others think of Belturbet Golf Course or if they even know of it.......

I have to say that Im a big fan of Belturbet Golf Club. I started of as a junior member, the a student member and finally a distance member.

I've played there regularly for the past 10 years. Granted its a nine hole course both second time round many of the holes have alternative tee boxes.

The club is very well run and the people are very friendly. Im also a full member of Corballis Links but still travel up to Belturbet. Great value at 170 euro with no green fees and usually no waiting for a tee time!
