Integrated Kitchen Appliances

I'm getting my kitchen done shortly and will need to buy a cooker hood, oven, glass electric hob, dishwasher and washing machine.

I don't want to spend a lot, under €2k ideally, but then equally I don't want a load of old tat that isn't up to much. Powercity seems to be the cheapest I've seen so far, looks like I can get a hood for €200, hob and oven for €300 each and the washer / dishwasher for around €500 each.

Could anyone recommend anywhere else worth visiting? Also, would I be right in thinking that I should steer clear of the very cheapest brands - Beko, Belling etc? Whirlpool seem fairly reasonable and that's Phillips, right?

stay away from the lower end stuff especially if your going for integrated models and if your kitchen fitters offer you a great deal try to resist
also as it normally turns out to be obscure brands-

remember that engineers hate servicing or repairing integrated appliances and once its out of warrenty you will find it hard to find someone willing to repair an integrated dishwasher ,they usually tell you its unfixable

so bearing this in mind ,my advice to you would be to go with a big brand with excellent back up , i would advise bosch for the integrated dishwasher (whirlpool are a bit flimsy, zanussi ok),zanussi for the integrated washing machine ,and if your getting a 1/2 and 1/2 or 2/3 1/3 fridge the zanussis are good electrolux are the same with whirlpool good but still a bit lower in quality etc -if your getting undercounter fridge freezer then the whirlpools are as good as the zanussi -zanussi also do a great range of ovens and hobs ,neff and bosch would be more expensive but the zanussi range is quite good

each brand has its own strenghts and weaknesses in the different appliances so a mix of brands is a good option but also bear in mind this is only my opinion as your requirements might differ

its in the media at the moment that did electrical are offering double the difference in cash if you can find the appliances cheaper anywhere in ireland
so it might be worth getting quotes from other top retailers first then d i d will have to at least better it for you - im sure any retailer at the moment is willing to do a deal

Thanks Knighted, some good advice there. I was tempted by the cheaper brands, but it could be a false economy I suppose. Zanussi were fairly reasonably prices actually, a bit more than the bog standard stuff but it may well be worth the extra cash.

Look out for special offers in the kitchen suppliers. The Panelling Centre (now called In House-I think) had a smeg dishwasher for €400 recently. If you do go for the cheaper brands, I have been very lucky with Powerpoint appliances. I had a Powerpoint washing machine for 20 years and never had to call an engineer out.

well really i think you could do a lot better for that price and really i would be woried about service enginneers coming to have a look because if it is out of worranty nowadays its not worth fixing they have made it that parts are expensive and labour is more so

and really what you should be looking for is energy eficiency at least a rated and you will find some people who will say more expensive is better this is obviously not true and 90% of these people know nothing about this type of stuff really most appliance products out there now are basically the same company just different stamps and this can be checked on the net

my advise to you is look around DID and powercity are not best if you look around there are actually load of places out there doing appliance now and if you buy alot they will give you a better deal

oh and beware of salepeople know what you want before you go in don't be talked in to a more expensive model they will away push more expensive items for more comission ie. got told by a guy 2 months ago in electroplus that the powerpoint intregrated dishwasher i want was the worst they sold and when i explained to him it had the best power rating got told i obviously didn't understand about the ratings idiot never ask what i work at as i am an electrician.

good look with buying i hope you don't get riped off

Well, to be fair, Powerpoint dishwashers are pretty poor.

FWIW Beko is actually Phillips so buying a Beko is buying a Phillips but without the extra cost.

Same rule also applies to Hotpoint, Creda , Indesit and Ariston. They are all the same company and machines are made in the same plant so again if your buying any of those brands just buy the cheapest brand as its the same as the premium brand.

Finally alot of brands use the same interior parts anyways so differences are very little IMO
