Thought for reflection. When you think that you’re the most unlucky person on the planet, that the hangover you have will never clear, that life couldn’t be much worst…think of this.

The Bubonic plague or Black death spread throughout the world between much of the 1300’s and returning through the next 1,000 years. Through its epidemic the following facts occurred.

75 MILLION people died from this disease.
    50 Million in Europe
It killed 60 percent of Ireland population alone, leaving entire towns empty.
Families often lost all of its members once 1 had become infected.
It spread through the air and was extremely contagious.
Symptoms included the following, extreme high temperature 101 – 105, extreme blisters and boils dementia, vomiting, lung failure.
It spread through entire cities in a matter of weeks.
Victims died within 4-7 days of infection.
The mortality rate was 80 percent.

Morbid as it is, if you think about it in the bigger picture and see how close we all could have come to complete extinction early in our history. It makes you think about how unimportant some of our moaning is , the price of petrol, how rich we are , closing times in pubs and off licences, bad drivers, bad weather all the bickering's that go on here everyday. For a change maybe think.

we are lucky to be alive and healthy.

IT COULD BE WORST…SO STOP COMPLAINING.SOME PEOPLE NEVER GOT ANYTHING LIKE THE CHANCES WE HAVE.

I wasn't complaining, I was being appreciative, I'm sure if anyone ever caught this plague it wouldn't be so funny.

Everything is relative, I orderd soup the other day and the got annoyed when I saw my girlfriend with some lovely chicken wings...

Most people do appreciate the way we live but complaining is part of life, standards drop otherwise. In general, Irish people are known to complain less than our European counterparts.

Yes, we just have the modern plague of shitty email forwards.

I'd rather the black death over this kind insipid bleating.

I read about one monk who treated plague victims - then contracted the disease himself. He actually treated his own boils and lanced (errr medical word) his wounds and didnt die. Never regained full 'health' but beat the bug.

Think of the free houses you could 'claim' if entire villages were wiped out. I'd be Lord of the Manor

You make a good point, and I'm not complaining, BUT...

It's complaining that makes us improve. No very many people will be motivated to do anything better if people didn't complain.

Have you taken an Aspirin lately?
Do you think Bayer would have invented it if no one complained about their hangovers, headaches, and the like?

You are right, and it is irritating when someone complains about a hangover and doesn't take an aspirin, because the solution is right there in the cabinet. But complaints, in general, make us improve as a species over time.

    I think it's worth it.

Of course, I wasn't saying that nobody should complain, was just a simple thought of how small we are in the bigger scheme of things. When I get major aggrovated or annoyed I think of these kind of things and how hard the people before us had it and it cheers me up al a little, just thought i'd share that's all.

You know what I'd say to those whiney f*ckers dying of bubonic plague? Cheer the f*ck up, you could be locked inside your father's basement for 20 years being systematically raped and having your incest babies snatched from you when they're born.

It's all comparitive. People are always going to complain, we only know as bad as we have it, and it's our right to whinge.

Exactly. And if she started moaning about living in a cellar
I would tell her to stfu and it could be worse...
she could be BONO. So yeah it is all comparitive.

And Bono's ALWAYS bitching about sh*t. I mean come on man, you could be Sinead O'Conner.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,193 ✭✭✭Turd Ferguson

Dont even start on Sinead O Connor, she is the ultimate moaner.
It could be worse, its not like she is Pope John Paul II or anything.

(Lets try and keep this going!!)

Watched a documentary a while ago on bbc4 about how they think the black death was actually the Ebola virus and they expect it to happen again.

Now in fairness to JP, he doesn't moan so much now. Maddie's still moaning contrary to popular belief though.

    OP has half a point.

For example complaining about the rain on Saturday for increasing your journey time.

    Meanwhile in Vietnam.

Irishcrx this doesn't allow you much room to feel any emotion without being a hypocrite. Unless you never get angry or sad or happy, then you're automatically a hypocrite.

    Example

You: "Oh **** my mother died"

Jimmy Angel: Ah but a 2 year old in Africa's mother has died also, and the 2 year old has aids and nobody to look after it... it will probably die. So cheer up!

^^ He didn't even add anything to it. I mean there wasn't a whole lot of subtlety there but what there was of it, he raped it... *OBVIOUS CUE*

G'wan. Hit it out of the ballpark.
