I had a car accident sunday night. the car swerved when I was going straight uphill at 50 mph. i had 4 new tyres and the steering alignment fixed the evening before. the tyre man is saying he didn't have anything to do with it.my brother said he thought there was something wrong with the steering when he drove it home.advice please!

check the tyres are all the same and get the steering checked again. i had a new tyre once that was out of shape.what type of car is it? also after a drive put your hand to the hubs to see how hot they are could be a brake problem. is the car pulling to one side if you take your hands off the steering?

id say the steering will be off anyway.before i hit the wall and smashed the front the bottom of the gear box and god knows what else underneath was damaged by the boulders they caught on.its a ford escort. no the alignment was fine before i hit.there just seemed to be a delay in turning then an over reaction on the previous corner i took.just don't know whether i can prove it was his fault. only driving under my own name under a year so wouldnt be worth claiming as the cars undervalued on the policy!

What distance was travelled between getting the alignment done and the crash?
Was there any indication of irregular steering movement during this period? When did your brother drive it home? After the alignment or after the crash?

Get a proper motor assessor on the case. Find out what caused the crash.

A car does not just swerve out of control for no reason.

Just a quick thing on new tires..... they need to be bedded in to get proper grip out of them. A new set of tires are slippy things.

I've seen problems before were garages have not done up the nuts tight enough and the wheel nearly came off the day after. Tires on the wrong way around (if they are directional).

The tracking wouldn't affect the steering that much. Nothing to do with the Tyre guy imo, unless you took your hands off the steering wheel.

You can knock the tracking off by mounting a kerb ffs.

Also some garages over inflate tyres when they fit them (always, always check the pressures when you get new tyres fitted!) which can cause problems, especially if the road is damp or wet.
