We're flying with Continental from Shannon to LA via Newark on Thursday. Nowhere on Continental's website can I find out how long before the flight check in opens. I know Air Lingus have started asking people to check in 3 hours before a trans-Atlantic flight, but is this the case with all carriers? Has anyone flown this or any route with Continental? Just wondering if two hours would be enough time, i'd love that extra hour in bed!

    This shows domestic flights http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/Travel/airport/process/default.aspx

But I think you should give them a call to be certain if it is 2 or 3 hours.

    Ireland Airports

Continental Airlines flights from Dublin and Shannon are pre-cleared by United States Customs and Border Protection. Due to the additional time required for this process, please ensure you arrive at the airport for check-in at least two and a half hours before departure. United States Customs and Border Protection will complete the baggage inspection process upon arrival in the United States.
    Dublin

Check-in desks are located in Area 13. Continental usually operates from gate B31. Please consult the airport monitors for gate information.
    Shannon

Check-in desks are located in positions 37-40. Continental usually operates from gate 9. Please consult the airport monitors for gate information.

Seriously though, thanks for that, saves me a phone call and gives me an extra 30 mins in bed... All in all, a good result!

You'd be wise to stick to terms and conditions. I was two and half hours early for a flight before but was refused as t&C's stated you had to be there three hours prior to check in. Won't make that mistake again! BKK Airport not the nicest place to spend a full day in especially when security had to be called on your travel partner as they freaked out so much at the ground staff. Stress central!! and definitely not worth the lie in or extra pint!

Can you not just check in online on continentals website using your booking reference and last name on their website 24hrs before you fly and then just bring your bags to the bag drop?

WTF! I thought online check in was only for people without bags! You boardsies are clever people you know!

To be honest, I prob will be there 3 hours before since I am anal travel person and can't bear the thought of being late!!!

Get there 3 hours before... You will proabably do immigration in Shannon so you need to factor that time in as well.

I know out of Dublin they hand you a page to read about when you need to be at immigration etc. and sign the back of your boarding card that you have read and agree etc.

No harm being early and sorted out than rushing and panicing...
