    Hi,

I am thinking of going to Bangkok in October.

Never been to Thailand before or anywhere in Asia for that matter.

I am thinking of going there alone though...Is Bangkok safe enough to be alone at night in the city..going to clubs..bars etc in One of my mates was there 5 times alone and he said it is the most traveler friendly and safe place he has been.

Let me know what you think?

Listen to your mate. Unless you're a complete prat it's very safe.

    Hi,

Ive been in and out of Bangkok a fair few times over my travels.
Never had any problems and always found people to be helpful.

The main backpaker area is around Khao San Rd and wasnt really my cup of tea tbh - grand for a visit during the day but wouldnt stay there - it is safe, it just a bit too tacky and tourist orientated (in its own way :D)

The city is really great - lots to do, sightseeing & day trips, great food and is very cheap compared to home

Travelfish is a useful resource for Bangkok so check it out if you have a chance - travelfish thailand guide

Enjoy the trip and dont worry, you'll have a great time

    Great. Thanks for the replies.

I am mainly going there to hit the bars and clubs and meet some birds..hehe

Should I be ok alone in Nana Plaza and those sorts of places.. :)

Are the ladyboys easy to spot when you have some beers down? Don't want to recreate the "Crying Game" haha...

As long as you use some common sense you'll be ok on your own anywhere in Bangkok.

Thailand is awesome though I could only spend a couple of days in Bangkok myself. Very congested. The Thai people are great too. Check out www.sawadee.com for some good info.
