    Hi all,

I am about to apply for a SNA course FETAC Level 5&6 in the college of progressive education. When I complete this course, I will have a diploma in SNA but what I really want at the end of the day is to become a special needs teacher. Im hoping this diploma will help me work towards this. My question is does anyone know how to go about this?!? Or do I have to have a teaching degree?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi There,
I'm currently working as an SNA ina Secondary School. As far as I'm aware the diploma you are going to do does not qualify you to be a teacher just an SNA, classroom/ teachers assistant etc. To teach primary/ secondary or special ed you have to be fully qualified(ie degree plus h dip or post grad or one of the degree courses that includes your teaching in say St Pats or Froebal) and then after that you specialise in special needs. If you do do a degree though I'm sure the dip you are doing at the moment will give you an advantage or expemtions from some of the course and will be invaluable to you as a teacher.Hope this is helpful.
    Good luck with your studies
