Well, how many dont do the Monday to Frday? Out of curiousity.

Worked weekends the whole time back in school/college, it was no prob really as back then work was nearly as much somewhere I went to hang out with my friends as anything. However in my current office job I am thankfully a Monday to Friday employee. Had to work Saturdays for a month a while back and it was a nightmare, the building is only a third full, there is FA decent in the canteen and going to a business park at the weekend is just suicidal.

So, how do you stick it?

I last worked a weekend back in January having done so pretty much every week since I was 16. I don't know how I stuck it for 6 years and I certainly won't be going back to it given the choice.

I work a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon, don't mind it at all. Currently have Tuesday and Wednesday off (soon to change).

    I hate working any day.
Getting up at 7am is a pain.

Oh and so is getting "talked" to about timekeeping on a weekly basis.

Same as that, half day Saturday every third week.

Get the proceeding Monday morning off which leaves a great long weekend.

Currently on work experience which is a full time, Mon-Fri job, also work my part time job on the weekends that I have held through out college so working weekends for 4 years. Weekend job is late hours normally too buy I work 6/7 days a week with Friday sometimes being a long day, 6am - 2am. But dont mind, I have plenty of time to relax when I become rich :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,977 ✭✭✭mp3guy

I work random hours each week, usually between 20 and 25. But I've pretty much worked every single sunday for the past year.

    Monday to Friday one week.
Monday to Thursday, and then Saturday the next week.

    It's pretty good.

Yeah my part-time job takes up most of my weekends. It f*cking sucks.

The worst is when the football is back on, as I miss most of the matches

Only part time 9-6 and 12-6 on the weekend. It's alright having the week to myself but more of my mates are finishing college or are already working so it's not ideal.

My shift always changes normally you do one late til 10pm, then four early's on any day, i dont mind working on a saturday as there is fcuk all to do in Galway City on a Saturday and it passes the time til we all head out on sat nights, also work one sunday every month or two months, dont mind it as it's time and a half:cool:

I work whenever work needs to be done and sometimes that means weekends.

I don't really mind though and am looking forward to milking the recently floooded people of Celbridge when their insurance money comes through and they decide to get tiles instead of carpet this time around.

College, so the only option really available to me. Only work till six though on Saturday and Sunday, so could be worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,658 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Being a college student, I have to do weekends. Really dont like it by now(4th year doing so), cant wait to do the Mon-Fri, and enjoy the sport on weekends, be it tv or attending.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,420 ✭✭✭JaneyMc

I used to work weekends, didn't mind at the time, but now I would hate it. There is nothing worse when everyone else is still in bed getting a lie on and you're crawling out to work, hungover to bits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭ImDave

Hate working weekends. When I'm not in college I work 6 days a week on average. Can't wait to go back now, it will be like a holiday in comparison :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 954 ✭✭✭marti101

I like working weekends and having my 2 days off during the week.It means with kids usually being in school i would have the whole day to myself. Also if i had an appointment duringthe week it would count as my day off and not to be taking out of my holiday.Cause my oh if he wants a day off it comes out of his holidays,i did work mon-fri for a couple of weeks but i was always tired cause im so used to ha=ving a day off during the week.

Nope, don't have to work weekends. Monday to Friday for me. Although I have come in on the odd Saturday when I have a lot of work to do. But that's only happened once or twice this year and it's my own choice. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,208 ✭✭✭✭aidan_walsh

Shift work, so it tends to vary from roster to roster. Working the weekend to some degree for the next month though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭Adyx

My days/nights change every week but it's usually four nights and one or two mornings. Work every saturday, most sundays but often have friday nights off. I'm not too bothered about not going out saturday nights - I'd rather go out midweek when it's not as busy (till students come back) and see a band or something.

    I work every second weekend.

The annoying bit is that I don't get any days off in lieu during the week for the days I work over the weekend. they're just "extra shifts". So, it can make for a hell of a long week.

It's a crock of balls, really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭unreggd

yes, always have, fookin pain in the face!

But gna work the usual mon-fri when im back from me travels

Never had a job that wasn't Mon-Fri. Occasionally have had to work on a weekend but its an exception.

If you can read this, you're too close!

I have to work weekends, have done for the past 9 years!

Id love to have the weekends off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,845 ✭✭✭Jet Black

Only work(if you'd call it work) 3 hours on an odd Saturday. Get a full days pay for it so not complaining. And if i dont work the Saturday I only work 4 days during the week and five days if I do.:confused:I dont know how they work it:confused:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,844 ✭✭✭Honey-ec

I worked Monday-Friday only for 6 years, then changed to a job that required me to work 2 out of every 3 weekends. It was a nightmare, I just couldn't get used to it. Even having days off mid-week didn't make up for it, as all my friends and family were in their work when I was off. I lasted 6 months, then ran off screaming to look for another M-F job.

Been here two years and am currently looking for a job closer to home (live in Tullow, work in Dublin), but working weekends is not something I'm prepared to consider. It's an absolute deal-breaker for me in a job.
