Thoughts on good PC/Monitor Set-ups for poker???

Hi again all,

So I'm looking at investing in a new desktop/monitor(s) for my new poker pursuit, but I'm wary of buyin somethin that isn't gonna be good enuff to run what I want to...

- What do the people in the know suggest I get in the way of specs?
- What graphics card/RAM etc important as a min?
- If I'm not gonna be doing any more than 4-tabling for a while, is a second montior necessary?
- Where to buy?
- How much u reckon I shud spend?

Really don't think you need anything high spec. Most poker sites are fairly basic and don't need any great processor or graphic speed(one exception would be betfair). From what others have said screen resolution is more important than size.
I reckon your better off saving your moolah for buy-ins.

Yeah I hears ya - But If I'm runnin HM etc importing in the background n whatnot n I'd rather have the piece of mind that it won't be obsolete for at least 12/18 months anyway...

Res-wise: Should 2 x 22 inch 1900x1220 (or so) do the trick?

Most modern Pc's will run all your poker stuff without any probs.... I recommend www.hardwareversand.de and spec your own ... I have a hell of a pc from them for under 1 k..

as regards monitor there have been a few threads lately on them ... try a search.... resolution is the most important bit...

i got 1 of those Dell XPS ones about 2 months ago... it's meant for hardcore gaming but for poker works perfectly

There's a lot of tech experts on here they'll know more than me but i wouldnt put you off 1 of these.

If you're just gonna be playing poker, you wont need that high a spec.

2gb of ddr2 RAM is what you'd need. You could get by on less, but its so cheap 2gb shouldnt be a problem.

Including a 24inch monitor, id say around 700-800 euro. Just do lots of research and shop around, and there's no need to be anything top of the range if you're just using the pc for poker. A simple dual core cpu, 2gb's of ram etc will do fine. also, how much do you have to spend?

You're a gent, good info there...

Prob spend about €1/1.2k all-in with good speakers n peripherals etc... Was thinking two monitors also though, Ill eventually be adding more tables, n a second monitor would be slick as...

I'll add the lazyboy etc later :P

PC World are doing a good offer at the moment on a 2gb dell for €549 and it has a 17inch screen. I use a Dell XPS and have had no problems with it multitabling and running Ptracker/other stuff in the background.

I'm thinkin somehtin along those lines, 2 monitors with my 17 inch widescreen lappy in the middle (HD - bit slow tho)... Reclinin lazyboy (had originally typed "Ladyboy"

) slides in under the desk slightly would be nice also!

really no need for 2 monitors.... 24" with 1920x1200 res will be more than enough....

I have 9 tables going here now and still have spare room

this spec is overkill for poker but it's similar to my own one but I paid nearly 1 k for it a little while ago... serious value out there now since the new range of cards came out...

go spec your own and you'll ahve it in 10 days.., only prob is they dont take cc's you have to do a transfer...

some of the comp guro's will prob correct my spec but some value IMO

logitech G5 is yer only man.... and I've gone through a lot of them....

G7 is the cordless version... I have the buttons on the mouse programmed with AHK scripts to reload and bet pot

Whats the story with those AHK scripts anyway? I've looked for one to autoreload and bet pot, but they're incomprehensible to me.

My computer has crashed a couple of times recently while playing there - it's only about a year old so was a bit surprised. This happened anyone else? Any idea of what in particular is causing it/can be done to stop it?
