Im soon to be inbetween jobs and will have 2 weeks off, so Ive decided ill head off on a holiday :D

Now none of my mates can get time off as there all saving there holidays for our 3 week trip to South America early next year, so ive to go on my own.

So I think ill hit TOronto and then head down to New York, maybe over to Washington DC, even over to Memphis from where I can fly home. I could use the greyhound buses I think? Would 2 weeks be enough time for that?

I have 4 weeks before I go so i presume im going to pay a good bit for flights but dont mind. Also what visas etc do i need? Do i need to get one of the new passports, mine was issued in 2000 and ive travelled the world on it so its a bit of a mess, but i hear I may need the new type of passport before I can get into the USA?

Also, I love a bit of clubbing etc, will the Americans think im a weirdo if im over there on my own, as i believe theres not that many hostels etc to make new friends?

Any other tips would be appreciated, as you can imagine i have to get my skates on here and get things moving given my lack of time....

as long as you have a machine readable passport you can enter the states a passport like this with the details circled http://www.us-immigration-attorney.com/images/mrp.gif

2 weeks is enough time for that trip, just dont try and go from toronto to new york in one day on the bus as its a hell of a journey. 2 days is plenty in DC

as for the clubbing i doubt they will take any notice

tips don't miss niagara falls obviously, a day trip to alantic city from new york maybe

i would not get a greyhound bus between toronto & new york. You should fly,its cheap enough. We did this a few years ago. I think we checked the train & it was 9 hours or something so i would definetely fly as it was not expensive.

Got an overnight bus from toronto to nyc a few years back arrived in Port Authority in time for brekkie, was the cheapest way to go at the time and saved on accomodation whilst on the bus.

10 hours on a bus is no problem! Go at night and save a nights accom.

Is Greyhound the only service thats availble though, ive had a look and cant find a price.

Flights are goign to be expensive if your bookign short notice, around 600euros return which will be a lot methinks....

10 - 12 hrs on the bus overnight no bother, aye greyhound is yer best bet can cost about 70 - 100$ canadian, think that was return too could be wrong, the earlier you book the better (http://www.greyhound.ca/en/), i booked the day before and it cost around 80$..

Something special about arriving into nyc bleary eyed, in the morning sun breaking through the skyscrapers... quality

would also recommend http://www.shadesofgreenpub.com/ decent food/drink/accomodation

Ouch its 95dollars for the bus down, was hoping for cheaper. I think this trip is working out to be to expensive:

    Flights: 600 euros return
Accom: 400 euros (ish) staying in hostels and cheap hotels (free accom in Toronto)
Buses: Toronto to NYC 60 euro. NYC to Washington DC 50euro.

1k before spending money, and i'llb e on my own for the American leg so the potential for fun isnt is lower. Cant decide what to do!
