Oslo and surrounds - Advice please

I've got flights booked to Oslo from Sept 16th-20th but to be honest I know very little about it. The flights were really cheap so with a few days off it seems handy enough.
I'd love to get any input from anyone that's been there. I realise things are going to be a bit more expensive over there but I've not got loads to spend on activites or accomodation so am keeping a budget in mind.

Has anyone taken the train trip over to Flam and Bergen to see the fjords? Is this possible on such a short trip and also is it going to cost a fortune?

Any advice at all is appreciated.

i assume you are flying into Torp with Ryanair if you are its 1 hour and 50 mins by train or 2 hours by bus to the centre of Oslo. The train is a better option there a shuttle bus that takes you from the Terminal at Torp to the station which really is only at the back of the car park. If your flying into Gardemoen which is the main airport in Oslo its only 20 to 30 mins. Take the local train from Gardemoen as its half the price of the Airport Express.

As for Oslo it is expsive but do able. A pint of beer will cost you around 53 kr which is about 6.50 euro. There also lots of things to do in Oslo I recommend seeing the sculpute park which is a massive park full of sculputes depciting the human condtion. also check out the city hall this is where the nobel peace prize cermony takes place you can also visit the nobel center. The chaning of the gard at the royal place, the munch museam which is where the famous painting of the scream is they only just got it back after it been stolen, Akershus Fortress which is a beautiful old castle and fortress used to be where the king lived and still today is a working milatary barricks, the Holmenkollen ski jump you can walk to the top of it if you want and get a good view of the city and what its like for the guys you jump off ski jumps. Theres alot to do and see. I have been there a good few times you can get lots of info by going to this website http://www.visitoslo.com/

The train to Bergen takes 8 hours you only have 4 days you might be better taking the night train there and then taking the train from Bergen to Oslo back. The Oslo to Voss to Flam to Bergen to Oslo trip takes about 3 days you wont have time to do the whole thing. Google Norway in a nutshell and you will get info on it.

You've picked the wrong side to visit unfortunately, Bergen and the surrounding fjords are spectacular and very tourist friendly.

    Try http://www.visitoslo.com/

But you'll probably blow most on your budget on accommodation and meals!

I went to see the Holmen Kollen ski jump and museum, pretty unusual thing to visit.

Also try the Kon Tiki museum http://www.kon-tiki.no/
    National Art Gallery http://www.nationalmuseum.no/
    Viking / cultural museum http://www.ukm.uio.no/
    Military museum http://www.mil.no/felles/fmu/start/

Oslo to Bergen is a fair distance and expense so I wouldn't bother in the time scale you have.

Tripadvisor would probably be the best place to find good accommodation.

WTF is right, are you the only one who hasn't heard about the legandary high prices of alcohol in Scandinavia?

You want cheap booze, think eastern Europe.

Norway's high prices along with slipping standards is causing them a world of pain.
