question about olympic medal allocation

    if a team were to win a medal, does it count as one medal in the table or is it the number of members in the team?

    ie, the USA win gold in a sprint relay, is that one gold medal or 4, or agentina come second for example in the mens football, is that one silver or 11 or is each sub used during the duration allocated one as well

    the reason i ask is that looking at the current table, it looks like china has been allocated 2 gold medals for their win in the sycronised diving (a pairing), not saying that each person involved in a win shouldn't get a medal, of course they should, it represents their achievment,

    but i would have thought when it comes to the results table a team event win should count as one medal

    Synchro Diving is one medal and archery team event is one medal the table you checked must have been a mistake here is the breakdown. Click on the country to see what they won.

    medal table

    thats what i would have assumed, but this is eurosports version of the table, gives china 6 golds, with the syncho pairing of Guo and Wu, having a medal each, only mentions one of the weight lifting golds compared to the two on offical site

    :confused::confused:

    A team win only counts as one on the medal table, but every one on the team will get a medal including those who may only have taken part in the heats although they won't get to all stand on the podium.

    IN sports like otball or handball, everyone in the squad gets a meal regardless of whether they player or not.
