How can it be improved?

Who was on late last night and what were they up to for the boss to come in?

No loss imo... read a couple of threads in there and they were dire.

The insults mostly consisted of people going "yeah well you probably like doing [insert irrelevant activity here], and you probably do it while wearing [insert clothing related to irrelevant activity here]"

And when that stuff failed to make any mark (obviously, since it's not remotely insulting) they just resorted to calling each other paedophiles.

All the while there were spectators going 'ha, top class material there!'... errr, yeah... sure.

Would be good if the contributors had any wit but I didn't notice any on display... it was like watching kids argue.

Thunderdome closed as it has moved beyond its original remit and in particular bringing in other boards users who have not been asked nor agreed to part take in the mayhem.

So T/dome is closed until a set of guidelines is agreed and gets some (really long established) mods who can act promptly on reported posts.

I dont believe that there is no place for Thunderdome, tastes vary thank god, its just steps over a line every now and again as happens in other forums but with other forums there is someone around to clean up the mess.

Put your heads together & come up with some guidelines or I send DeVore in."



Subonsciously, does Vexorg think the Thunderdome is an offensive word with the spelling of the title -

"Thnuderdome Closed",

like Flubber would call someone a "cnut"?

But I don't know why they closed the place, first I've heard of it.

As the boss man said .."tastes vary", it does not suit everyone.

Not many like the "beard and hat" forum, or the "mustard forum" but they don't have to go in there.

The Thunderdome is the dumping ground for cantankerous threads anyways.

It is like the cack 80's movie with that cack actor Mel Gibson, old Mel stumbles into "Barter Town" and has a bit of a kerfuffle with some dude, and it can only be settled in a cage fight style of combat with two entering for just one victor to emerge, but instead the bout to go on ad infinitum, etc.

If I were the admins though I'd be worried about the possible repercussions of giving a free rein to posters who think 'paedo' is a clever insult (even if the victim is Dave McSavage).

A few boards have been sued for libel in the last few years iirc... and as the 'promoter we're not allowed to name' issue proved, Boards.ie aren't exactly inclined to fight the power when threatened by lawyers.
