Camera Clubs

    Hi there,

Just wondering what people here feel about camera clubs.

I did a couple of SLR courses a few years ago (Introduction, and then an improvers follow up) and I really enjoyed them. Apart from learning about photography techniques, I really liked how the projects and assignment work gave you themes with deadlines to meet and really motivated me to go out and shoot pictures. I really liked going out in groups and shooting together . I then loved the C&C at the following lesson when we reviewed the pictures.
I have enjoyed my photography since but find I only really do it when on holidays or long weekends etc, and my stuff is a bit haphazard, no real theme or use of a particular technique.

I am thnking of joining a camera club. Is this a good idea? Would it get my creative side flowing or will it just be technical discussions and/or nerdy people showing off what equipment they have.

I live in the Bray area and see there is a local club. If people had any feed back on this club and their thoughts on clubs in general I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

Membership of a Camera Club is not for everyone, but I have really found it very good. Like many organisations, you get out of it what you put in. Since joining Dublin Camera Club I have become more & more involved. The more advanced photographers have shared their experience with me & having work criticised by independent judges is also very useful. I was making quite a few suggestions to help improve the club & so was asked to stand for the Council.

I have not been to BCC but hear they are an active club. Go along as a visitor & see if you like it. If you do then join up, if not then try somewhere else.
