Did anyone get this leaflet from National Coaching and Training Center
I got one because I have a EUFA Soccer licence which I got through the FAI .Dont coach anymore cost me a fortune the years I was at it.Modules in this workshop like Make decisions/change lives,Mimimizing distractions :maximizing performance,Developing decision makers in rugby.
Is sport given to much importance?

I think 99% of sports coaches in this country would say that, volunteerism is something that is crucial for sports to suceed.

No, especially when as a sports coach or administrator you can

    and many, many coaches do.

As for the course, when a coach decides they can no longer learn something from other coaches then they probably aren't a very good coach. Having said that, the course may be pitched above or below a coach and they would have to decide whether the course is the most suitable for them right now and if a coach can't make a decision like that by themselves maybe they need to go on this course:)

Cost wasn't the only reason I gave it up, a lot of coaching methods are aimed at "elite" players , my club forgot that it was started to provide local lads with an out. Not that there is anything wrong with a club progressing it was just that they started scouting for players instead of building a team. The club was community financed but I coached a team with only two local lads.
I'm not totally convinced that sport is as good for people as is made out, it is probably responsible for 99% of couch-potatoes and a lot of domestic rows, although that could be blamed on tv also.
this seminar sounds like it is for the benefit of a minority of sports people ,it is an effort to produce internationals for the future in all sports.
Terms like the "twenty four hour athlete" make me cringe. As for learning off other coaches, I think I learned more from players

I know what you mean. Clubs or sports being too elite can cause a lot ot athletes to leave their sport too. You need two - support for elite and support for recreational. Maybe you should have moved to a different setup.

Watching Sky Sports is not sport. Sports athletes, coaches and volunteers are involved in sports and I think that people getting up off their arses to play should always be encouraged. I hate Sky Sports and what they have done to sport where all but the main sports they have are now considered as minority sports. Sky Sports have turned me off watching football (having said the Euros was a tonic) and as a result I train and coach outdoors even more:)

Yes, I think thats what this course is about. There are many courses for lower, less elite aspects of the sports.
