    Hello!

Am just wondering if anyone has or is currently doing the Oscail Arts Degree? I am starting this year, English and History and have not decided how many modules I am going to do. I work full time so is taking on 4 modules too much work? I want to get this completed asap, but don't want to take on more than I can manage!!

    Thanks

    Hi Glory,
I'm the same boat as you, just registered with Oscail to do History and Psychology. I was going to do 4 modules and get it done in the 3 years but decided that it would be too much as am working full time also. So I decided in the end to register for 3. I wanted to do purely hist and psyc but because you have to have found modules before moving onto the others I had tyo also do Soc 1. So If u wanted to do just hist and eng you would only be able to do the 2 modules the first yr(I was planning on Hist 1&2 and psy1&2 for the first yr etc)
Hope this makes sense and is helpful
    Good luck with studies.
Oh a question for you!! All the required reading-Do we need to buy all these books new(or second hand if they are newsest edition) or would it be sufficient to get them at library etc?? Just a thought
    Thanks

    Hi Snowbird,

thanks for the reply. I think I might go for the 3 modules this year as well. As for the required reading, I would say we could get them from a library if they are available. Otherwise it will end up costing a small fortune!!

Best of luck with your studies

I have just finished my 2nd year with Oscail. I have done 4 modules (His and Soc) so far. I have found that each module takes a lot more time than anticipated. His2 in particular is a vast course and the assignments were difficult. They were not straightforward essays, they all involved analysing historical documents. The students that take on 4 modules each year are few and far between. I work part time and I found 2 more than enough for me. Having said all that I am really enjoying the course. You get a lot of support through Moodle from fellow students. You can work at your own pace and concentrate on the areas of the course that you like best. The exam papers have 8 questions and you have to answer 3, so you can be selective. My advice would be to cover the course units and take notes, make sure you attend tutorials, have a look at your timetable and look at the assignment due dates. I found it a great help to try and get one assignment in early and it takes the pressure off the other ones. As regards the required reading, you will not get time to cover all the reading, so be selective about what you read. If you can log on to Moodle at this stage you can pick up a lot of your books from other students and it won't cost you a fortune. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Hope I didn't put you off, I am so glad I started this course.

Hey, I'm starting Psy & Soc this year. I decided to just do 2 as it's been years since I studied so didn't want to bombard myself (i also work full time).

I may be exempt from couple of modules anyway so I'm not panicking but would love to have the degree done in 4 years. (i think i'll just try to get through year 1 first though!)

    Best of luck :)
