Does anyone here know if this is a good deal? it's available in aldi next thursday. Does anyone here have experience with a medion? theres a 3 year warranty which sounds pretty good but I dont know what their customer service reputation is. 9-cell battery is a good selling point, but is that processor a bit too slow to run all of this stuff?

Looks "ok" for the price. The graphics card is a bit weak and the software is mostly trial by the looks of it. CPU is ok but nothing special. These used to be very high spec for lower price but this curent offer is a bit meh. Have you looked at DELL outlet?

Just on the processor, my Dell has a single core 1.86 centrino and runs everything I throw at it. It has a dedicated Nvidia Graphics card though, which this model lacks. Very little info on Medion here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medion

What do you intend doing with it?
Gaming? - Graphics Card is pants
Work? - No Office just Works so its not ideal. OpenOffice?
Surfing? - Its fine for this

Had a look on the DELL website and a similar model to this is almost identical in price. If you added anothe 180 euro to this 620 price and hit dell outlet you would get 2ghz, 4mb ram and a 256Mb graphics card. Still will not have Office though.

I bought the last one of these in Aldi in March and it is a perfect laptop for my needs which would be surfing the net, music, photos, light gaming (Football Manager), dvds, etc, the tv card is also very cool plus the Esata connection is very handy. I would presume a laptop bag is also included as it was for mine which was a nice surprise as I wasnt expecting it. :)

The 3 year warranty is also very good, Ive had to use it unfortunitly as my Cdrom drive stopped working last week, but they came directly to my house picked up the laptop and I should have it back this week. I would have no problem in recommending a Medion laptop. Hope that is of some help.

Not bad, but what truly makes it value for money would probably be lost on a lot of users (connectivity, 9-cell, 3gb ram, etc). Only worth it if you have use for most or all of it's features, as a normal day to day laptop you can get better from Dell. Check out bargain alerts, nice Lenovo currently on ibood for 530 euro.

    I'm looking at this too.

    Good:
    802.11n - REALLY want this.
250GB - plenty of room for a couple of OSs.
    3 YEAR Warranty. That's fantastic.

    Questionable:
1MB cache - Would two make much more of a difference.
X3100 - I don't know much about graphics cards. Does anyone know how this performs?

    Other thoughts:
5.1 from a Laptop? I can't imagine it's any good, so you'll have to use an external anyway.
    S-Video is useful I guess. 8xDVD burner. ?
