    Lads,

I started a new job recently and dont get paid for any lunch breaks. I usually got paid breaks before, my last job prior to this was 39hr week with 1 hr lunch and morning afternoon breaks. I am sure these were paid for.

this new job is 39hr week but no pay for lunch, no breaks in morning or evening either but you are free to take some time iff so it seems.

I am on a fixed salary (with ot when needed) so is it normal to not get paid for lunch?

you aren't entitled to paid lunch in most industries (unfortunately). That's fairly standard.

    see: http://www.employmentrights.ie/en/informationforemployees/whataremyrights/

    * Unpaid breaks during working hours

You have the right to a 15-minute break if working four and a half hours of work and a 30-minute break if working six hours of work.

note the unpaid part of the above.

Yeah, you're entited to a break, but you aren't entitled to be paid for a break.

As a rule civil/public servants dont get paid for lunch. Those that still get the extra half hour for 'banking' on fridays obviously are one exception.

15 min statutory morning break is a 'paid break' for everyone.

Sounds more like a wage than a salary.

Only counts for the Retail Grocery and Allied trades.

Personally I get 1.5hrs paid breaks per 8hr shift (2x45mins), with the DAA. I definately reccommend them as employers ;)

I think it's a reference to many civil/public servants taking a "15" (often up to 30 for some) minute break where they don't have to clock out (they do clock out for lunch). There's a belief by some there that this is an entitlement for all, rather than a perk of their own employment.

    My mistake - I always thought that the 'morning break' was a paid break. After a quick google it seems that there is no definitive ruling from Working Time legislation. This is SIPTU's interpretation;

    http://www.siptu.ie/YourRights/TUFGuideToLabourLaw/HoursHolidaysGeneralConditions/OrganisationOfWorkingTimeAct1997HoursR/
Is There An Entitlement To Paid Breaks?

The law is silent on the matter of payment for breaks.
In practice, shift workers tend to get paid breaks whereas day workers get unpaid breaks. These current arrangements are unaffected by the Act. Some other day workers have arrangements where morning tea breaks and/or lunch breaks are paid. If breaks are currently paid, this situation should persist. Whilst the Act is silent on the matter, it does not prohibit payment for breaks.

    Officially or unofficially?

Officially. Can be more, usually is on nights but that's only if the place is dead. Which, luckily, it usually is :D
