Selling an unusual car

A friend of a friend is selling a mint, well priced mk2 escort.

My mate was asking me what the best way to sell it is. Going by my own observations of where they crop up, I suspect the B&S and the Autotrader papers are the way to go but is there any point putting somehting like this on Carzone?? My mate reckons there might be specialist rally websites but the ones I've seen don't seem overly burdoned by info/ updates.

What should I tell him- I'm afraid of reccomending carzone and subsequently getting no interest.

A mk2 escort will sell itself, especially if it is a 2dr.

    ebay is another option.

a ford escort mkII will sell itself, if it had all the rpoof of EVERYTHING, i mean, every nct, every peice of work done, proof its not a cut and shut as they all are.... or as they put it " restored... "

even so, bad ones start at 100 quid, good ones earn upto 30k here, What a silly used market we have.

Nothing unusual about a Mk2 Escort, plus there's an awful lot of then around at the moment so may not be as easy as you think to sell - will also depend on the year - if it's pre '78 and over 30 yrs old will be much easier to shift - if not potential buyers have to fork out for more tax and worry about NCT'ing it

I don't agree. If it has a solid shell then everything else is completely irrelevant. No sane person is going to leave the x flow in anyway!

MKIIs make silly money for what they are.

where's these mk2's for 100 quid???? if the shell is good it will sell, and at good money too, no matter what the history. i think a solid shell is history enough

If it's a 2 door Mk2, it'll sell no prob. If it's as good as you say, even if it's a base model 2 door, it'll make good money. A 4 door one would be worth less, but you'll sell it no problem. The good ones will always sell.

To advertise, try www.EveryFordIreland.com www.Rally.ie autotrader as well. There's always the classic car mags. Just pop into Easons and you'll see them all...

    If it's a 2 door one, I'd be interested.

i dont agree that a mk 2 will sell itself. i also dont think history is important on a car like this - its nice to have, but not essential. what is important is condition. have a look on a few of the enthusiast sites, sales are slow enough at the moment. ive been trying to sell a mint 4 door mk 2 for a while now and i think im going to keep it. 2 doors are way more desireable and will always be easier to shift.

@ op - id tell your mate to stick it on the buy and sell, anyone i know whos into escorts regularly checks it.

@ maidhc - the 1600 pushrod is a great little engine and is a good bit lighter than a pinto. its got a huge following. but then again, i dont know many sane escort owners :)

i sold my mk2 not the best either in one day, try ebay proberley the best price you'll get, failing that classic mags like practical classics etc and autotrader..
