Playing DVD's on PS3 on a HD tv.

Hello ,I posted a thread over in the home entertainment section ,same as this one .Hopefully someone will reply :(

Basically I'm using my PS3 at the moment to play DVD's.Because of the heat sometimes the fans are getting louder ,making it akward to view them.
I want to do my best to use the PS3 when only necessary (games&blu ray) ,trying to avoid dust getting sucked into it.
Can anyone recommend a DVD player with hdmi ,that would have more or less the same picture quality as the ps3 ,without spending a fortune.

    Thanks.

How loud is it? There are two PS3's in my house at the moment and neither of them are loud enough that they would interfere with watching a film/playing a game. There might be something wrong with it.

You can pick up the Sony unit below from the Sony Centre's for a reasonable price I'm guessing somewhere between €70-90:

There are cheaper players but the Sony's are good quality units.

Hows the venilation of the PS3? Is it standing upright or on its side?
If on its side make sure there is room at the back & RHS as it blows out exhaust air there.

that quote worries me. is your ps3 locked away in a place to avoid dust getting "sucked in" (the fans don't suck in dust, they blow out hot hair, away from the cpu etc.)? if so the fans will be louder because they're running at full whack all the time to avoid over-heating

Cheers for the replies ,wasn't sure if I was after starting a no no thread:p. I do have the ps3 lying flat ,occasionally I put it on the floor (wooden) to keep it cooler.
Its fine normally ,it's just when the room gets warm it gets very warm. And I can almost tell when I'm going to hear the fans come on ,they are hair dryer loud.
It's mostly because of the warm days that this happens.

Thanks for posting the link of the sony player kintaro ,but early yesterday I travelled into peats and picked up http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/663922/index.html
Works a treat with my TV ,when I put a disc in , my telly turns on with it. Theres a slight bit of noise with it on HMDI ,but it's very very slight. Theres loads of handy menu options for adjusting captioning ,colour ,noise reduction etc. It's almost comparable with the PS3 ,old stuff like Bladerunner is a bit easier to notice the difference.

Excellent stuff so, once you're happy. You should have let me know you were going to wander into Peats and I could have given you a wee discount! Next time perhaps.

Cheers ,it's been a long time since I've bought in peats ,use to always love going upstairs when it was accross the road.

It was great to talk to someone that really knew what they were doing ,I'd forgotten about that:(

I think you must have a faulty PS3, as I have never heard them get even near hair dryer loud. I have used one with the ambient temperature being over 45 degrees (Australia) and its still very quiet, I would get it looked at. Or maybe you have super hearing.....

Did you try switching the fans in the XMB from suck to blow ?

I know that lads are saying that the PS3 blows hot air from the ps3.
But in order for it to blow air out ,it has to take air in. Unless of course it has it's own O2 compressor built onto the main board ,but I doubt it.
