Greenhills Road realignments planned?

Just having a nosey on live maps here, here and here and it strikes me that land has been reserved to realign the Greenhills road, going so far as to bypass it using Calmount Avenue instead. Am I seeing things? The Greenhills Road is a twisting narrow and dangerous (pedestrian killed just a few weeks ago) road running along a ridge (the area used to be quarried/landfilled) with inclines to either side. Probably quite limited interest in this thread I imagine

    Three separate projects:
    1. Connect to Tallaght Bypass - complete. http://roads.southdublin.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=159&Itemid=247
    2. Straighten at Parkview. http://roads.southdublin.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=169&Itemid=244
    3. Realign and divert from M50 to Walkinstown Roundabout. http://roads.southdublin.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=170&Itemid=244

There is also a QBC project.

Its been on the cards for decades but only done piecemeal.

The route is several hundred years old.

Didn't know about any of those schemes, thanks Victor.

It seems like a wasted opportunity if they don't build dual bus lanes if/when this scheme is undertaken. Hopefully the DTA will ensure such things, someday.

I'm a little surprised in SDCC though, they generally have been pro-bus lane I'd have thought.

Was up in Calmount Park recently and was thinking how useful it would be to have the greenhills road connect with ballymount, it's definitely needed and cant wait to see it done, won't be holding my breath though :)

It's build on the esker, the remains of the last ice-age. Was it St Kevin's way used to go this way? One of the ancient roads of Ireland used this route. I know it's often mention as Esker Riada but I recall hearing that it wasn't in fact part of the original N4/N6 which Quenn Maedbhe used to use in her chariot to slip over to the east coast on
