    I thought my "only got a few keys to work with here" code was rather good though.

    It's to do with unicorns the way the numpad is integrated into laptop keyboards using the FN key.

    As he said^.

    My daft cat walked on my laptop keyboard, and pressed um..some key... which activated the numbers keypad and I hadn't a notion how to cancel it. Hence my very odd code.
