Sky Sports - temporary FTA

This was posted on Digital Spy.

On 12110 H 27500 2/3, Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and FX are broadcasting 'in the clear'. They are flagged as encrypted so I assume they won't be available on a Sky digibox. But I am using a FTA receiver and can receive them.

My pick of viewing is the US PGA Championship from 6:30pm on Sky Sports 1.

Family Guy double bill at 9pm on FX. Ajax V Arsenal at 8.15. Inter Milan V Sevilla on at the moment on Sky Sports 2.

Who's guessing this will be the shortest FTA transmissions ever?

    Sweet, thanks for that.

I doubt it'll last long, but nice while it does.

Pity it's not on a Premiership weekend. Or that it's not the movies channels as well. Maybe in the coming weeks.....?Doubtful.

Why is it that Sky boxes can't pick these up but FTA boxes can?

Because the channels are still flagged as encrypted.

Sky box software must deliberately not show stuff that's flagged as such, regardless of what is really happening.

Best reason is because of the Olympics and nothing major on the sports channels so opportunity to entice people to see whats on!

It's been clear all day today, and I think last night as well. Have been watching cricket all day. Not too often you get to see fta cricket.

Still loud and clear on my lidl box this morning. Thanks OP.:)

If you try some of the more unseen channels down the listings e.g. pakastani etc, you will actually see cricket fta the odd time including world cup last year

All three Sky Sports are still available free to air. Lasting quite a while.

probbery free to air for while maybe will scramble channel during the weekend before game start

If it's true what some people have said that it's just to compete with the olympics, why would the FX UK channel also be FTA(and not Cartoonito, which is on same transponder). I think it could be just a slip up on Sky's part, as the encryption flag is still on.

Anyway, hush-hush, on the QT til the weekend premiership games.

If that was the case then I would think it would be free for everyone.

cos most people want to see more viewer to see sky sport what it like then subscribe to sky sport package if they interesting but if people who live in Europe will able view sky sport over the European for temporary free to air i already send to email sky that why sky sport still free to air have to wait for reply or probbery wild beam satellite technical flag enrgra problem will get back to you soon

From the sentence structure I would guess you normally speak Pu Tong Hua.

And why would you tell them? If it's a mistake by sky then you are spoiling peoples fun.

Fun while it lasted. Asking too much to have it FTA for this weekend!

I knew it wasn't going to last forever, but people calling up Sky and making them aware of it couldn't have helped.

It was manna from heaven while it lasted as I got Harringtons win! but I guessed Sky would become aware of it, and possibly did through this forum!

I think these "freebies" are done well and truly on purpose as a marketing ploy.
