PAYE & PRSI balancing?

I hope this is the right place for this:

I get paid per week with the following deductions : PAYE 29.61, PRSI 14.92

A couple of weeks ago I got three weeks wages in one week (holiday pay & bonus) PAYE was 159.22, PRSI 79.84. Its more than three times the usual amounts, so I've actually received less (nett) than if I'd received the wages over three weeks :(
I'm wondering if the deductions "balance out" somehow over the year (as I've been told) or if this is wrong? The accountant has made mistakes in the past with various people's wages so I just want to see if anyone here knows about these things? Thanks! :)
