    Spectacular eh?

Who'd have thought there'd be fireworks?

Fireworks are a really unexpected twist alright. ;)

Can only see it in a slightly blocky picture streaming, but how was that countdown done at the start, were they the drums lighting up or something?

LOL. never thought they would have them. Ceremonies are normally rubbish but this is impressive. Why do i feel hungry.

Pretty spectacular alright, the opening was savage. Getting a bit bored now however (german tv stream not helping :) )... looking forward to the ending though!

Edit: there were people responsible for that columns thingy?! Serious synchronisation going on, they must have been drilling for months!

How on earth are you supposed to know what country is coming up next? Uzbekistan followed by Barbados, even if it was folowing the French country names is a little more logical. ;)

It was brilliant but the way teh countries are coming out is annoying me.It started in Beijing at 8.08 aswell.

It is always in the host country's alphabet order. Which is mandarin for these olympics.

The lead-up to it involved a lot of fireworks which were set off to look and sound like giant feet walking over the city, was cool :)

What on EARTH is with those gobsh!te Irish narrators, "the pictures you are seeing now are being taken by two helicopters". They're talking absolute rubbish, why not just let us listen to the music ffs!!!

    It is what it's.

Oh and "There's Poland. Lovely people. Very hard working." And "what's your account number" when one of the countries associated with scams appeared.

    It is what it's.

That's why I watched on the BeeB. A spectacular climax. The climax is always important. :)

Did the RTE broadcast stop before the flame was lit? The BBC coverage went on till 17:15 while the RTE one was scheduled to end half an hour earlier.

They stopped just after the flame was lit. It was on the big screen on RTE here in work. I was watching the BBC coverage on my PC though

Then watching closer the runners were gracefully jumping the cables..its was utterly utterly amazing, not surprised it took 10 months to get it right.

It was absolutely terrific. I'm sure the Brits are saying this morning, "How the f-k are we going to top that?".

You could always CGI a chunk of it and insert that into the the live broadcast like the Chinese did.
