Just wondering if anyone due to start this course has paid their fees yet? I sent a deposit ages ago, did the induction day, but haven't been asked for fees yet. Starting to worry that I've fallen off a list somewhere...

    Hi

I'm in the same boat and kinda startin to worry now. The letter that we got a few months ago which asked us for the deposit also said that balance of fees must be paid before course commencement in September. I reckon they will bring us in for induction and ask for the money then (before giving us student cards).

On another matter, we have to start teaching on August 25th. Do you know if there is a lesson-plan template that we have to follow? I don't wanna be teaching for a month and then have to go back and do a few hundred lesson plans!

    Cheers

Thanks for that - relieved to hear that someone else hasn't paid. I reckon your timeline sounds about right. Re teaching: my understanding, though I'm open to correction, was that we had to be present in the schools from when they open, but could do a week's 'observation' i.e. watch the real teachers for a while before actually having to take over. I'm not sure where to get a template for lesson plans though. If you do start teaching straight away, I'd definitely keep fairly detailed records of what you covered in each class (including, if you can, things like objectives and resources used) so that when you go back to make up the plans you'll have something to go with.
    Best of luck!!

Wouldn't you do the lesson plans before teaching?

Ideally, yes. But if you have to start teaching before lectures start, and are given a preferred lesson plan format after teaching a number of lessons then you will have to revise early lesson plans to bring them into line with the rest of the year's work.

I remember that happening me. Had quite a few done out when my supervisor decided to give me a template...was annoying to say the least!

I wish to become a teacher of Art, Craft and Design at post-primary level or work in related areas.
I work full time and was wondering if you do Higher Diplom or Degree and night?
    Can you help ?

NCAD run the Post Graduate Diploma in Art and Design Education for teaching Art.
You could contact them, but I doubt it's an evening class.

I think there is a Community Art qualification that is a night class.

Does anyone know when we have to pay the fees for the Trinity Hdip?

Eh... have a look above in this thread. We are not certain but there is an administration day on the induction timetable. We reckon that this is the time they will use to collect the fees, give student cards, etc.

On another point, I started teaching yesterday and we're not in college until the 8th. Does anyone know if we should be doing lesson plans for classes taught this week and next? Really don't fancy havin to type up three weeks of plans in one go.

    Cheers

I'm making out what I'm sure are fairly dismal plans for the lessons I'm teaching (not the ones I'm observing obviously!) at the minute. I'm hoping that if I've shown willing and have some general outline sketched I won't have to do too much to them after lectures begin. Not sure how this will work as a plan but at least I'll be able to remember what I did and when if I do have to redo them all!

    Heya guys

Was at the intro day today for the dip. Does anyone know when the fees are due to be paid and when we get student cards, etc?
Don't think it's mentioned in the handbook

Sorry to hijack the thread but is there any other way to get the form from Trinity for 2009? They don't seem to respond to my emails...

From the Trnity website relating to the PGDE:

For an application form, please write to:

    Ms E. Fleeton,
    School of Education ,
    Room 3087,
    Arts Building,
    Trinity College,
    Dublin 2,
    Republic of Ireland.

    Email: efleeton@tcd.ie

    Yeah, that's the email address I used but I didn't get a reply. I suppose I'll have to write a letter by s-mail. :(
    Thanks anyway.

Give it a few weeks, you will get the application form. The lady in the office hasn't been around so probably hasn't got your e-mail requesting the form. Anyway, I didn't get mine until October last year.

An application to the PGDE in TCD requires that you state your FIRST subject. The second is not considered nor examined so you will not have to worry about an interview in a different language.

    Use this email:
    limondd@tcd.ie
Elizabeth Fleeton is on medical leave and emails to that address wont be responded to.

    Hi everyone,
How does TCD operate their acceptance and application. I know you have to apply through pac.ie but is there a minimum grade for acceptance. I was told that it based is mainly on the interview, is this correct?

    Many thanks

You don't apply through the PAC. You apply directly to Trinity.

I have no idea if there is a minimum grade for acceptance but it seems likely that it is used as an easy way to initially screen applicants before interview. I would guess that at the interview stage everyone may be on a level playing-field but I don't know that. But I'd say it's safe to assume that the grades do matter.
