very good pics. gets me all sentimental.

I would hazard a guess and say they are sea darts on a type 42 destroyer by the way.

I'm sure it was a good day, I used to go to "Navy days" as a kid and we had great fun. I was also lucky enough to have tours around several ships at other times, including HMS Invincible on Trafalgar day one year. Did they have any submarines on show or was it restricted to the surface fleet?

Oh, and its Royal Navy by the way, not British.

As my old scout leader used to say, the Army wears red uniforms so that they do not show up the blood. the navy wears blue for the same reason :D

They had no subs there only surface ships. Would have been nice to see a sub, but could'nt see them let the public crawl all over it though. You could be right about the Sea darts.

I know that it is the Royal Navy and not British Navy. The title was changed by the moderator in the first 2 posts so I just went with it to avoid any problems.

A Irish Naval vessel is open to the public in here in Galway tomorrow, so I will try and get some pics if I get a chance.

Excellent, is this a regular thing, i would like to have a look around an irish naval ship.

Once you have been on lusty though, it may seem a bit errr, small. makes you wonder just how big the new carriers are going to be.

There is a submarine museum over in Gosport if you ever fancy having a look around one (Never done it myself). there is a great water taxi service which takes you around the navy base, then across to Gosport where you can get off and look at the Submarine Museum before getting the baot back to the hard. http://www.rnsubmus.co.uk/

bit more useless info for you. In the picture of the two frigates you took from the bridge of Largs Bay (First thread) you can see a tower on the far right of the picture. That is the submarine escape training tower. it is basically a very deep swimming pool that is used to train submariners to get out of submarines. they used to hold demonstrations there which were pretty impressive.

Great pics Roger, so in essence it really was a case of "Meet Your Navy" instead of "Meet The British Navy" when you show that it wasnt just the RN present, Good stuff, good shots.:)
