    The Championship

    If the sun is shining
And sure even if it's not
    We'll watch the county's finest
    Give it their best shot

The winter months were long and dark
    Spring time a distraction
We could hardly wait till summer came
    To see some proper action

    A typical Irish June
    Wet and mild and breezy
    Provincial early rounds
Sure we should get through them easy

    July gets more competitive
    Losers bruised desires
    Thanking God through broken teeth
    For the qualifiers

    Dog days up in Dublin
    They're howling on the hill
With distant dreams of holding Sam
    Staving off the autumn chill

    Now they're playing knock out
    In imoáint agus peil
    Tortured trainers jack it in
And the back door's gone as well

    Hail the Indian summer
    School kids settle back
    Culchies crammed on special trains
    All up for the match

    Croker at the equinox
    Speeches in the Hogan stand
Three cheers for the runners up
    Music by the Artane band

    Deireadh Fómhar on Jones's Road
    Silence in the grandstands' tiers
    Sunset's on a jogging man
    Already training for next year
