NTL broadcasting certain stations in Widescreen from tonight ?

    Just noticed tonight that TL (digital) appear to be broadcasting RTE, UTV, BBC, C4, Sky news (but not sky one), & some others in widescreen...

    This the same all over ?

    Sorry, my bad. Letterboxing.

    Channels which before have been incorrectly formatted now appear to be ok (or better than ok), black band, above & below.

    Letterbox or animorphic?

    even my 4:3 TV sets both do true animorphic WS to give about 30% better quality than letterboxed in 4:3 frame WS.

    Letterbox the band has blank lines top & bottom on 4:3 non-animorphic TV and black all around on 16:9 WS TV
    Animorphic there is no blank lines (unless cinema WS) on a WS TV (16:9) and emptyness, not black lines on a 4:3 TV with true 16:9 animorphic mode.

    Those that broadcast in true anamorphic (that I know off hand) on UPC are:

    RTÉ One
    RTÉ Two
    TV3
    TG4 (the actual video is, but for a while, and possibly still, it didn't have a 16:9 flag on it, so it showed up stretched to 4:3)
    Channel 6
    BBC One
    BBC Two
    UTV
    Channel 4
    E4
    E4+1
    Sky One
    Sky Two
    BBC Three
    BBC Four
    More4
    More4+1
    BBC News 24
    Sky News
    BBC World
    Film4
    Film4+1

    Like I said, they're just the ones I know off hand. There might be more - I just know these cause I've watched all of them at some point or another with a widescreen stream. EuroNews is widescreen now as well but the video is letterboxed (the black bars are actually part of the picture sent to the box)
